Title: Keeping pipe clean
Post by: gettinold on May 26, 2012, 06:42:53 pm
Hi all! Just wondering if you have any tips for keeping new aftermarket pipes looking good! Eg dg pipe or pro forma or similar. Don't expect to look brand new all the time as any bikes I do will be ridden but would like pipe to still look good!

To keep the bare metal finish from rusting after its washed spray it with fish oil :D

I just spray my new Proform pipe with CRC after every ride/wash.  Still looks great and "worksy"  ;D

Hey Gettinold, my CR250RZ came from the US with a DG pipe which seems to have been coated with a bronzey tinged clear lacquer. It looks very trick and has lasted well. Agree with Simo, I have always sprayed the bike down with WD40 after each ride and after washing.

We ceramic coat (HPC) the header pipes on the XS880/Wasp and it works very well tho Nick did his Norton/EML and after the dirt track they were fairly sandblasted in places. That's what happens when you chase a 1000cc kneeler with a 10'' rear wheeel. :o :o

Kenneth, your pipe is the old school DG with the clear high temp lacquer! DG don't do that anymore. It's just the bare metal finish now  :( I just bought 3 DG pipes in which I will have to put a clear coat on, as I like that look also.
