Title: RM125B ignition timing question
Post by: John Orchard on May 17, 2012, 01:41:19 pm
Hey guy's,

I have just finished rebuilding the engine in an RM125B that I recently bought, I never started it since buying it before rebuilding (although did here it run for 5 seconds before I bought it).

I noticed that the ignition timing was set to full advance when disassembling the engine, upon reassembly I set the stator to the mid position as stated in the workshop manual.

The bike was real prick to get started, lots of spit-back through the intake; started burning my new aircleaner element!!!  It would rev out pretty cleanly but would just die at lower rpm's.

So thinking 'timing' due to the spit-back through the intake, I advanced the timing to full advance .... it started a lot easier and would nearly run well at low rpm.

So I broke out the rat-tail file and thought I'd elongate the stator adjustment slot; with even more advance it seemed to run even better!

Any idea's from the Guru's here?

It's possibly a stator or flywheel from something else..

Buy a timing light, make some reference marks....................and use them.

Would anyone know what ignition advance I need for the 125B in mm?  I'm guessing from all I'm reading that about 2.00mm is in the ballpark but I'd prefer to know from somebody that's been there.
