would be nice if Chris mallam could get some pics before they are sold for VMX mag INCLUDING the 89 bike .
-
wow unreal is he keeping one or is that all he has :o
they are a great piece of mx history hope they go to the right home ;D
-
Thats all he has , and he wants to sell all 3. Watch out For DT at The spanish GP at Bellpuig this april as he goes for his 5th world title{2nd world vets title}
-
Wonder if he accepts paypal?
-
If one of them has a good ignition I think Hoony might take one of them. Maybe two. Just in case..... :)
-
I can't help but wonder about the thought process that lead to the decision to sell what has been such an important part of his life.
If he simply needs the money, you can't argue with that, but if not, you'd simply put them aside and forget about them for a while and hope you changed your mind one day.
I took that advice from Firko with my KX and glad I did. It's now come back out from the bowels of the shed for some more attention. ;D
Hope David doesn't ever regret this decision...................

i think the price reflects how serious he takes those hondas, not many people can afford them and he knows that ,but haveing said that if i was a rich collector and money was no option sure id buy them just to have them in my lounge room .(hey kid s move the slot car track ) were haveing visitors from japan
-
He was making plenty of bucks back in the day. I still remember going to Hawkstone Park in 1986 and watching him drive through the pits in his Porsche.
What a rider though. I reckon he'd smoke most of the clowns racing the Aussie MX titles even today. His laptimes on that jump infested track at the British GP last year were good enough to easily qualify for MX1...

I've just been (un)reliably informed thet Sir Bradalot is bringing them all to CD5. All he needs is a B Double to transport them all.
-
i thought he may need a convoy of trucks.

As much as I hate to admit it, that era of Hondas were the worksiest (is that a word?) looking bikes out there.
The Euro ones even more so that the U.S. ones.
Thanks for that shot Paul. ;D

God, how i drooled over pics of that bike in MXA. Unfortunately, I could never get over the fact Johnny O beat him on stockish CR125, so I've put my $35k into restoring one of them ;D
-
jonny o beat him at the 1986 mx des nations didnt he....i think he flogged everyone and he was on a CR125....jean micheal bayle the frenchman done the same thing at the 1988 mx des nations, overtook our own jeff leisk on the last lap to claim 2nd outright and leisk was on a factory 500 honda....
-
He flogged everyone except Bailey & Johnson
-
And it weren't no stock CR125 either. In saying that, it was still the greatest ride in MX history I reckon.
-
well, production-based (they hid all the good bits where you couldn't see them)
-
If anyone wants to see Jeff Leisk at the 1988 French MXDN on DVD drop me a e mail , Oh and just to even out the yanks Vs Dave Thorpe check this out , 1985 MXDN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UN4hGUQRlY
Its real funny how the yanks never look at this mxdn with rose tinted specs. Dave thorpe was a 3 time 500cc world champ when the 500cc races were filled with legends, carlquvist, vimond, leisk, van der ven, geboers, jobe, liles, nicoll, whatley, malherbe etc.
-
Apologies if this has been posted before, The legendary cala beer at Namur in 88.http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=642ob2fz0mc
-
Let's not forget the awsome effort from Craig Dack at the '86 MX d n who came in as Dave Thorpe's shadow for fourth....another two laps and he would have had him for the podium.
-
i was lucky enough to watch dack many times as he was teamate at mitsui yamaha with kevin froud who lived up the road from me, i used to go up to matchams park in my lunch hour to watch the pros practicing and dack was a regular there.

Contrary to all, I wish I was a millionaire right now ::)
I for one would grab the 85 Rc500 as this was the true "Factory Works" bike, hand built at a cost of around $100,000.00 pounds at the time. :P
I wonder if Rick might be interested. 8)
Andrew is right all the "Yanks" flogged-em at the MX Des Nations in 1986. Bailey went 1-1, Johnson 1-2 and Jonny 'O' 2-2 they easily won on production based bikes, while most Euro teams were using "works" bikes. Pretty cool eh!! ;D
I think Dackie had our best result in one of the motos he came home second 250cc

These might be interesting too.
