What a great site! What about Damon Bradshaws trick bike ridden in the Nationals and built from basically stock Yammy bits (except the forks of course ::)).
After riding Pete's I'd have one in drop of a hat. Very smooth and FAST.

Yeah i had a fair few laps on one of these recently and smooth and fast sums them up well -choice fun ;)

About 12 months ago on U.S. ebay there was a factory built yz 500 for Bradshaw in 1992, it was the wr motor shoehorned into the yz 250 chassis. It still had all of the factory suspension and sand case engine cases, a hand built pipe, a frame with no numbers and a whole lot of bracing.
The description said yamaha usa built it, but Japan didn't want them to use it in the nationals because it was not what yamaha was releasing to the public.
Tons of photo's, even one with Keith Mcarthy.
It sold for $2500 :o :o :o

In Australia there was one name linked with the WR500 - Rob Twyerold.
Super fast and well set up by Rob himself.

Robbie was more linked to making the YZ490 go like shit against water cooled competition, he could also do the same thing with Rotax ATKs so very good mechanic and rider.
Given that it was sold as an enduro bike I made the mistake of using one as an enduro bike, Robbie did the barrel and head and I ran pro circuit pipe, but it was still a pile of shit when you rode it next to almost anything else at the time, that motor was all mid range and in sand whoops and tight stuff the power was just too narrow, YZ490S was better...... but WR had good chassis and probably good trail/play bike but against for example a KTM 520 or open class enduro it was a dog. I rode it back to back on a loop with Mark Whites 520 and promptly chopped it on WR250 which was an awesome bike.

I was lucky enough to ride Peter's WR500 a couple of weeks ago. I've never really been a fan of big bores even if you accept that they can't be ridden as fast as a 250. But it was a real eye opener. Very easy to ride fast, and not intimidating. Great fun, much, much better than I thought it would be. Thanks Peter, great bike.
Cheers, Grahame
