Sidecars wanted, as many as we can get, upto Pre 90, going to be a huge event, more details at QVMX SIDECARS thread....
-
I was asked today if l knew of any special sidecars and or rider passenger teams from the old days that would like to compete? Straight away l thought of the Jumbo, would be a great thing to see, get Hansi to bring his over and it could be like the old days, we should see what we could work out, as it's going to be quite an event......
Two Jumbo on the startline, I'd turn what ever I'm on off, just to hear the noise.
-
I have asked Hansi before and he agreed he would need 20K to make the trip, so you better have a good sponsor. :D :D :D
He has mentioned that he would love to do an extended adventure ride out here so that might entice him to come for a lesser deal, but you have to understand that Hansi works all summer in his hometown selling fertilizers to the farmers so he isn't keen to leave home at that time.
Also for half that ammount we could pay for all the teams in SA and Vic and WA to come over and really make it a great race-not some two horse race that only one would win.
-
You missed the point again >:(
It is more important to have sidecars from all states at these events ( and particularly the titles) and to have lots of them (not just 6 or 10 miss-matched outfits trundling about a paddock) and this is Hansis view as well.
He would not come all this way during his peak season to blow us away and is more keen to come and do some schools where he could teach ALL of us what the sport is about.
We need to spend some effort and any dollars that come our way in getting a few guys out during their off season to give us some racing lessons and draw big crowds.
-
I'll be there so bring an extra $50 so you can protest me. :D :D
-
I'll just take Hansi's passenger Daniel if Hansi can't come. I learned heaps when he had a swing for me on my EML at Moranbah last year. Fastest i've ever been around that track and he said we could go another twenty seconds quicker. Any sidecar schools would be good no matter what level ability you have. ;)
-
You're dead right Davey. We will do more by teaching new (and old) riders and passengers than flogging our old outfits around in front of no spectators.
Until Wallies son)or daughter) steps up the heritage ends there!!
-
Dave could you contact Daniel and see if he is keen?
I rang Greg Anthony today and he's interested, he's also going to talk to Trev his father.
I told him he couldn't bring the DT, he just laughed
Clint Grabham will be overseas.... Bugger....
-
mate is a QVMX meeting so pre 90 lets get a full grid what asight :) :) :)
-
Yeah Walter it's Pre 90, 4/5 of August, and they tell me there using the big track which will include some track we have not ridden on... Would be good if you could make it. If we could find a bike for Hansi would he be interested? We could see if Daniel would swing for him. They have asked me for Names of people coming so they can advertise in magazines and flyers. So far l have a list of 21 bikes which l will hope to get there.
Vaughn would Geoff be interested if we could get him a bike?
-
Could you or Vaughn please get in touch with Hansi and see if he's interested at all, as putting his name in the advertisements would be a big draw card, along with yourself and Vaughn of course.
-
Tell Hansi l will organise a trail ride to the event, he can have my bike and l'll ride my Brother's.
-
I will email Hansi today, tho a phone call is always better.
If you organise a trail ride to the event for him, will you send your bike to Switzerland or should he just get one there and ride it out- should he come the "long way round" or down thru Afghanastan? A fair bit of organising there Popeye ;)
Not sure if pre90 is the way to go for this event as it will bring about the break-up of our sport, just as it did in the mid 80s-still I'm just an old dickhead that knows f all.
-
I have always maintained that they were where the sport separated and that is where they will do so again. We do not have the population to run both ends of the sport-well not here in Qld that's for sure.
However-if we are to keep the sport alive we need to have a feeder class and for me that is the 500 fourstrokes or junior class.
No doubt we must also keep going forward and let firstly the pre90s lightweights in and then by default the later classes as time goes on and we go to our graves.
Being such a small fraternity we also need to keep all sidecars in one paddock and that is why ASA is the way it is-we can't have the oldies racing on one side of Aust the same day that we have moderns racing on the other as that is not how the sport is formed-it is a family event.
By the very nature of this years pre78 and post classic nationals we are driving a wedge into the heart of sidecarcross. Yes, we should have supported Crystal Brook better last year but there were many things to consider there and cash was a big one.
Wyarralong will also be another wedge in the system and that is our own fault as well but with Connondale we can set the cart right if we dont go stupid. As I said-we would be better off spending dollars getting sidecars from all over here and not just paying for Hansi to come-even if he would.

Sent email to Herr Bachtold today-we await a reply.

Back in the day it might have ended the sport but the only to grow it now is to go modern or late model 500s young blokes coming along have no intresest in the old stuff especially with some of them not being vary reliable, just my opinion but I think it's a good one
-
Yungy could you define reliable please? A lot of the parts on my HBS/Wasp (Home Built Special) sidecar are 40 (yes 40) years old. Further more at the odd occasions I take the old beasty out ,a huge amount of general interest and "love to have a go on" comes from the 16 to 35 year olds. The same ones who just walked past 'modern" outfits with barely a look.
Mate if riding "Moderns" is the way we ___ VMX___ people should follow ... arr forget about it you cannot see the forest for the trees. Tim754
-
True maintenance could be a big factor but with age some parts can be hard to find an expensive, don't get me wrong the old ones belong aswell but to intice new younger people to the sport they can relate to more late model Mx bikes, I've only been to events in qld so I don't no what other states are like, how many people would have old bikes like 426s or 400s or 600s sitting in sheds would make great sidecars and cheap with parts readily available, i just want to see the sport grow & I can't see it happening unless we start getting some more lightweights i no they might not be classed as vmx as such but I think it's a better way to introduce new people to the sport
-
I've always been a fan of vmx but I guess I have more intrest in stuff from the 80s & 90s as that is the era I grew up in so it's easier for me to relate to
-
Well said yungy. That's why I won't buy a pre 85 bike unless it has a 2 stroke in it.
-
I will be keeping my pre 85 EML and it is reliable. I do love moderns and wouldn't mind owning one but I'm with Walter on this one. Can't beat the sound of a field of big twin four strokes thundering around the circuit. ;D
-
Even a small field of 10-12 is a great sound, but we will divide the sport again if we don't watch out.
-
rule1 have fun
rule 2 see rule
its what its all about two things to pack if your going to cross the border to race up here
1 beer
2 sense of humour(tossing up which one is more important) see you at the classic run what you bring, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

here's todays reply from the Hansi
Hi Vaughn Yes we are and I also hope that you and your family are well. Sorry for getting back to you this late but I have been on holiday last week. I was in Sardinia bicycling for one week and feel very fit after that. Me and Marco are still riding motocross and I am also driving the sidecar together with Daniel Koeppli. We are currently practicing for a Veterans race which will take place in Kramolin (Czech Republic) on June 10 together with a sidecar GP race.I really would like to come to Australia. However, as you already said, summer is a bad timing for me as long as I am still working. I am still dreaming of coming to race to Australia when I can go into retirement – which comes closer every year. We wish the best for you and your family. Talk to you soon. Best regardsHansi, Sonja, Jenny & Marco.
Just as I thought-however as also stated he would love to come and one day we will get ALL sidecars to Conondale for a monster event.
-
Thanks for trying Vaughn, does this mean you won't be able to make it Walter? would be good to see that Jumbo go round instead of collecting dust, anyway here's hoping we get a good showing of sidecars from all era's up to pre 90, maybe on Sunday afternoon we could have a handicap event. At this stage l haven't heard back from the Anthony's but l will ring him shortly..
Don't forget the QLD Title's are 2 week's later at Harrisville...... So it would make it more viable coming all this way to do both........

I spoke to Ron Chadwick and he was keen. I 'll bring out the mighty GTMX80 tho. :D
-
Great 2 days of racing at one of the best tracks in Aust. 10 sidecars on the line after some injuries and mechanical failures kept some away - oh and some work commitments too.
Weather was cool morning and afternoon but sunny during the mid day so perfect for doing some exercise and the pace was on with McMurdo/Hollaway-EML GR650 being chased by Mattock/Rotheram-EML XS850
Laman/Fletcher Wasp XS880 and a hard charging Cooper/Palmer on Nick Higgs' EML Norton 950 but Popeye having to come to grips with a r/h gearshifter again. The Higgs family was on young Isaacs VMC CR500 pre90 outfit out to learn some more race skills and the rest were also in learning mode with either new passengers or new drivers or new outfits to get right. Best of the newbies were the DR500 mounted pair of Broad/Shaw who after getting caught on the gate charged through the pack and finished 4th.
Event promo guru John Tate once again teamed up with Lisa Fox for some shrill seaking-screams from them both were all that could be heard :D.
McMurdo hurt his back..... riding a solo of all things and had to sit out(lay out) the rest of the event so the feature was taken by Cooper/Palmer followed by Mattock/Rotheram with Laman/Fletcher 3rd.
There was also a race on sunday which turned into a fantastic battle between Mattock and Laman with the lead changing a couple of times and with Palmer leaving early Cooper was blooding another new passenger so he was down the order.
Last race on sunday was the annual fun race with this year the passengers having to leg-it Le mans style which saw some funny starts and alot of top teams having to wind their way through the pack. Lots of fun for all.
