No probs meeting 96db with an exhaust like that.
-
Not many stock exhaust last good old rust gets them .
And yes well under as GS bikes in Europe must past a Ride past noise test .
-
How much do they weigh Dennis, the Rotax motors look so big and bulky
-
ive always wanted to know what GS stands for. i know it stands for something.

Gestarpo Squarekopf :D

should have 40mm front forks
From what I can tell some came out with conventional forks and disc brake and some with upside down forks and drum brakes. The two I have have both got the upside down white powers. They're a nice bike to ride.

True
1982 Gs came out with 40mm marzochi
Xc came out with 41.7 mm Marzochi
later models arfter 1984 you could get white power USD forks
but My Brain stops around the Mid 80s. got a wife and kids then....
I do think by 1984 the bike with USD forks was Not a 504 but was out to 600cc????
Good to hear that you have one or two I will try to find my book with the number ov 504 that came to OZ
My brain think that it was less than 40 or so need to find tha book

I had a '85 with usd forks and disc front end which was a 600.......had a safety seat as well.

I've got one that's running and one that's a basket case. I never bothered with it because the bottom end is seized and the bore is split and was quoted $3,500 just for parts. Cheaper to buy the one on ebay. Have thought of putting an XT500 motor in it. I've also got a Can am Sonic and a 4 ATK's with the same motor. Seem to have a soft spot for those big Rotax thumpers. Probably one of the best built 4 stoke single motors out there.

Crash,

hey Evo mine are all 94, 95, & 97 models. The ones that Bert Flood imported. I collected them under the guise that they will become valuable and collectible one day. Truth is I should be buying up YZ's and CR's. There are a few older ones floating around the country. atkusa.com has a riders forum that has a bikes for sale section. Some older ones turn up there for sale.
The KTM's are coming out of the woodwork now. There's another one listed on ebay under VMX. I hope the price goes up, as I can't justify another bike in the shed and I would kick myself to death if it sells cheap.
How much does the guy want for the 85 model in the states?

Gday all i had to join up as this topic interests me as i have a 84 KTM GS600,when it bought it it had upside down forks with drums but i have since fitted 83mod usd forks with discs but my big problem is the crankcase is broken at the driveshaft due to an over-tensioned chain, its been in the shed for years but im keen to get it going again, i have a spare crankcase but not the expertise to transfer the internals, any suggestions of help would be appreciated, and i can say its actually 560cc in size but called a 600 ;) .
Brett.

ny competent mechanic could do it. You can also contact Bert Flood imports in Lillydale Victoria. They where the original importers. Ask for Dave and he can send you in the right direction.

I had one of these too, 600XC. Bought it new from Bert Flood, raced it in two desert races back then, regrettably sold if for a song, as it wasnt compliance plated for rego.
Was good for 170kmh on the dirt!!!!!! Have the pics to prove it too.
Best out of the crate race ready bike I ever had. Yeah I have a soft spot for these too.
Recently seen at a swap meet recently a '88 or sightly later a LC4, first water cooled 600GS version for sale. Looked really original. I think these were Rotax also before they went to there own KTM developed LC4 version.
Had a ride on one in its day and didnt like the front end weight bias to the old air cooled one.

hi i have a rotax 600 i think its around 84 but have no triple clamps they cracked some years ago ,would love to find a set and get her running again

I have stumbled across an '83 KTM600GS ?? Rotax powered thingy.
It's missing some bits and I'm not getting far in trying to find them.
I'm missing all of the engine mounting bolts, the air box, the rear brake lever and the 2 rocker covers (to start with)
I'm onto a brake lever of an '84 KTM MX500 are they the same?
Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated
regards Tim
-
Tim, you'll never find the bits. And if you do, whoever has them probably wont part with them. Wait till you price engine parts. Wont get much change from $4,000 for a rebuild, not including labour.
I'm more than happy to give you a couple of cartons of your favourite ale and take that pile of stress and headaches off your hands. ;D

The USA changed the dirt track rules last year from Rotax engine 600 to CRF 450's
That means there are allot of 70HP rotax engines lying around cheap because who the Fu*k wants them now?
-
I have a '84 KTM 600G/S that I am interested in moving on. It has the USD forks and drum brakes. It is a project but doesn't seem to have been beaten to death by a 15yo and is pretty complete. Cosmetics are there but very average, rear shocker needs a rebuild. Engine has been run by the previous owner and was OK but the carb needs attention to run again. No muffler. Sorry to be vague but I'm feeling out any interest. I can send pics etc and figure out a price but I reckon about $2500. I'll be busy at the Nats this weekend but will reply ASAP.
