I don't know about slippage problems but the kick start mechanism is inside the centre cases, like early Suzukis.

I know only too well, I have both..................

hrs to do the kick start gears and while its apart replace leaking seals/cam chain/rings and lap the valves 5hrs motor out of frame or 7 hrs in frame @$90 per hr plus parts itd be better to sell it as parts as there not worth much

take the kick starter off, where its split, grind it out so you can tighten it more and it should not slip anymore

it is an internal slip that happens, you will need the two ratchet gears and sometimes the gear on the shaft behind the clutch basket.
this problem is usually caused by not having the auto decompression cable hooked up or adjusted properly. We all know that they can be started without the cable but the trade off is the wear on the gears
