Just picked up an 81 Rm125 to restore and race in post 76. Bike is complete and looks to only need a top end rebuild, tires and plastic, and of couse all the small stuff, cables bars etc. The cylinder has been ported, but otherwise its stock and the frame and forks look to be straight. I will post some before pictures over the weekend.
Also would anyone have the E-mail for John at the website http://airconditioning-refridgeration.co.uk/index.html as the e-mail on the site doesnt seam to work.
Cheers, Chris

OK, well here are the before photos. I stipped last night, actually came apart well, no real surprises but now I do have a few questions...

I am wondering if anyone has a photo of their headstock as mine doesnt quite look right. It does look that a race shop has the bike at somepoint as there is a mame etched on the barrel and it ported, also the "reinforcement" on the headstock.

I checked my "project" 125X in the shed and it has exactly the same bracing on the side of the headstem.
I also note mine has a metal steering stop directly under the heastem where your's doesn't seem to in the picture (or are my eyes finally gone on me??).
I also note the white plastic spacers on the front guard. Mine has those as well and I always though someone had put them there to lower the front guard but they must be std 8)

Thanks For checking Simo, It looks like late 70's welding, strong but not pretty as by the rest of the frame. I got the rest of it apart this morning and only spent an hour bashing the rocker bolt out of the frame. Everything else came out fairly easy so overall I am pretty pleased. After looking on bikepics and flipping the frame over the stop has been competely knocked off but looks to be just a block maybe 5/8" wide. So a bit of welding tonight an a slight tweek of one of the rear subframe and I maybe be able to get the frame resprayed this weekend and start reassembley
Cheers, Chris

Can't wait to start building it!

I these bikes look great with the safety seat, are you going to run it or go for the standard seat?
-
I have to admit that I never checked a stock seat until now, If the foam I have is in good shape then I will do the safety seat, I think it looks pretty good also.

Well, last night started to put it back together, cleaning and refinishing parts as I go along. I put in my first order of Suzuki parts yesterday. I also started to clean up the tank but may need a better candidate as mine has gone quite a bit darker on the bottom :(

That bit od rough cut metal on both sides of the headstock is pure factory LOL
That's how they were, looks rough doesn't it but it is correct
The steering stop is just a bit of metal bent in a u shape, they break off.
I tapped the frame, put a 10mm bolt in and spot welded it.
I am John from the RM125 site by the way, I gave up the 125 domain so just published the site on one of my work domains, I ditched the email because it's a hobby site and I was getting idiots demanding answers as if it was a business
You can get me on [email protected] if you want any info
Sweet looking bike , it looks all there

Thanks John,
yes the frame looks a little rough around the headstock but it doesnt look like its going to brake! And yes the bike is complete except for the front number plate. Speaking of number plates will the 78-80 work on the 81 (round) as opposed to the 82 and up are square.
