Gents is it possible to buy a new chain tensioner spring for a 77 AW? The one I have could use some Viagra or a transplant :D It sits up under the motor - hiding from view...

Hi Pete, You need genuine Maico part #5020

All fitter and turners do spring-making as a part of their basic curriculum Pete, and this is a real easy one to jig-up.
I would try Les. Even if they were no longer available? I would imagine for sure, that he or Eric Cook form Maico only would have some one local who has made a batch for them.
Also Pete, I actually think an another way/improvement would be to fit an expansion spring instead, to "pull' the end of the tensioner up instead. You could attach the other end of the expansion spring to a thin bit of aluminum flat bar dropped down from between the lower RH air-box mount and it's frame attaching point.

Mick,
Thanks so much for the info. i must be the only Fitter and Turner in the world that didn't do spring making in their apprenticeship. Typical..... like you said Les might have a source for new springs. That would be perfect. Don't really want to get another 2nd had one from the US and need more viagra. new would be better. Les is away for a few days so I thought I would ask the question. i have had a look at the additional spring idea and I can do it easily as we are running a husky roller instead of the rubbing block so the front 6mm hole is spare. But better would be to run the right tension spring. many thanks Pete
