Just purchased a set of forks. and the lower legs need polishing. Where in Brisbane can I get this done, and what amount of $$ would I expect to pay?
-
Do it yourself.
Very cheap and easy, a simple afternoon in the shed should see it done. And then bit of clear coat to keep 'em looking shiny and all will be good.
-
yeah do em by light machine or wet and dry and hand polish yourself. MAchine shop get that funky high gloss finish and they look shit full...... like cheap chinese shiny parts.
-
I media blast (glass bead blast or equiv) them, then give them light wet sand straight strokes in one direction (vertically) with 400-600 Grit.
They come up sweet!

Buy a rag wheel for your Bench grinder and a stick of polish.... mmmmmmmmmmm everything is shiney. :D
-
Thanks for the info. Thought it would be a hard job to do, but you guys have had good results. What brand/product of clear coat should I use?
Something to get done over Easter.

Possibly easier to maintain without clear coat...just polish occasionally, but be aware of rocky tracks....they'll dint and chip real easy.
Unless of course ya stay way out in front. ;D

what he said, once it's chipped/scratched you'll have to strip the clear off and start again. Meguiar's do a good liquid form mag wheel/alloy polish . Supacheap stock it.

Thanks Paul & MX? That advise makes sense, just making work for myself if I use clear coat on them. Will check out the Maguires polish and try to get a nice finish on the forks.

I polish them with a rag wheel at home to a smooth hi shine then use a mild cutting car polish to bring them back to a satin type finish. Then the clear after getting the wax off.

Mudguard,
There used to be a bloke in Albion just behind T##M M#T# kawasaki called Matt's metal polishing, not sure if he's still there.
If your stuck, might be worth a try.
