Title: Sydney West Dirt track Series.
Post by: pancho on March 28, 2012, 08:01:46 pm
Got my entry fom in the mail today for Nepean 15th april , came today, Slider is almost ready to go, just have to get the old RT1 out of the back shed and see if there is enough enthusiasm left in the old worn out piston to get it started.
 Who's ready to  rock on?
 cheers pancho.

I'll be there Punchy.
I'll be running Methanol in the DR for the first time, may not get a chance for a test run so it'll be interesting.
There are a lot of people working behind the scenes to raise public awareness of our beloved home track so spread the word people.

Just had a look at the revamped entry form & list of events, thanks to Jim.
One thing everyone should know is that as of now, you can only ride 1 event per bike, unless you are over 35 then you can also ride that bike in the over 35's.
It seems all the club's involved are trying to streamline the program in an attempt to get through 3 to 4 rounds per meeting.
We should all support these changes because they will obviously be a work in progress as things evolve.

One point I would like to make is regarding the Sidecars.
Surely they should be an Allpowers class, usually we are lucky to get 2 - 3 competitors in each of the 2 current classes, just an observation
I'm not against the sidecar boys, even if they are kinda strange :D

Yeah slides, getting a full three rounds in will be good.

With adds in the local press coming up and the new promotion 'Sydney West Series' tag, hopefully will mean a renewed spectator interest and bigger gate takings.

Unfortunately I can't make it to Sat. practice [which I could use!]
Hope there's a lot of sliders!

Cheers pancho.

Can pre 85 bikes enter?
The entry form only states pre 75,78 and evo.
As for limiting entries to one bike one event, it seems to me will only mean less rides for your $.

not realy if the aim of 4 rounds is reached
yz125 4 rides
old way
2 rides per round and mostly only 2 rounds were run  4 rides same
we must give it a try could turn out ok

Ok, willing to try most things once. But what about pre 85 bikes?
Cos if they have been dropped then that equals zero rides.

Post by: Curly3 on March 29, 2012, 08:15:46 pm
As I said it's a work in progress.
Let's just suck it and see, I'm sure it'll be flexible given the support recieved for each class.
One thing I did notice is that we now require a breast plate with our number on the back, how soon do we need to have one ready and what happens to the guy's who don't have a registered race number?
Pre85 will need to be confirmed sprint76 but EVO is pretty close, probably just an oversight.
Micks?

At the last club meeting [2nd wed every month pceway] I questioned about the new GCRs ruling on number on back of all riders.

  My question was,
Is this rule only applicable to open events, or is it mandatory at this stage for club events and/or will it be.

At this stage no clarification has been forthcoming.

  Cheers pancho.

Hi sprint76, whilst i dont speak for the City of Penrith Club (SydneyWest Series Promoters) my understanding is what the club have always run what they call the "classic" classes which are not period or year specific but cater  for pre 74, pre 78 and Evo. In short must be air cooled have no link suspension and no disc brakes. Whilst i am not a model/specs/year guru some pre 85 bike will be fine.

Hope this helps

Does that apply to us old bastards riding old bikes?
If so will there be some flexability at our first club round of the year?
I know you've got me by at least 20 Wally, these days I'm feeling every year.

According to the news letter and entry back numbers are in for every body,

rear sprocket guards are also in but it would appear from what I saw at the Barry Sheene Event,

bits of plastic ,  cable tied,    to the swing arm got some bikes through

If I'm going out on Sat to get the Methanol settings right.
Can we camp at the track?
Sprint76, just bring your pre 85 bike, I'd be very surprised if they knocked you back?
We are trying to spread the word.

NEWSFLASH.
I just opened the mail and there is a notice from Penrith MCC.
Saying that the Race Program has gone back to the old list of events that we've used for a while now.
Just to prove that there will always be someone not happy, on a 27 event program for an old fart like me, my 3 rides are in events 21, 24 & 27.
Surely we can squeeze one of the big bore old duffer events in a bit earlier?
Just a thought.

On a serious note last night the City of Penrith MCC discussed amongst many subjects the classic classes eligibility. The guts of it is that bike MUST be air cooled, NO discs and NO linkage suspension . . . basically EVO rules.

the moms has a cutt off or used to.  Bar pads are only required on Pre 78 and later classes. if its pre 75 or ealier and its not in the supp regs you Dont need to use one
Title: Re: Sydney West Dirt track Series.

18.5.6.9 - thats the first referanc eof a requirement ( im assume your doing vintage racing here, not modern stuff.  IF there is no specific mention that its a requirement in the supplementary you are no required to have one in place.  IF someone says you do ask the COC to show you where that rule aplies to you in the 2012 moms, then you can pull out that referance as the first one

its a club day and if the coc says pads its pads.no amount of moms rules ect will change there minds

I had a great time out at Nepean this arvo, catching up with a lot of old mates and forum regulars and even watching a few races. The meeting was a real eye opener with shitloads of entries and some great racing. The crook part of the day was seeing the forum's own Sliderulz being loaded into the ambulance after crashing hard and breaking his leg in one of the last races of the day. I was told that the break's a pretty bad one too.

This is crook news, Steve (Slidey) is a very likeable bloke who was just coming back to form after a 25 odd year lay off. He's recently had a hard time of it healthwise but was really enjoying his racing and planning his new race bike.  I hope his injury isn't as nasty as the pit chatter suggested and he can eventually get back on the track.

Get well soon Steve. ;)

Thanks for your support Mark, I'm laying here in Nepean Hospital, feeling pretty sorry for myself right now and struggling to sleep.

That'll be it for me but I will stay involved and finish off my numerous projects.

My definition of a great race day is that all have a shit load of fun at a viable meeting and everyone goes home in the same car thay came in so while Round 1 of the Sydney West Dirt Track Series seemed to be a screaming success on the first two points it saddens my to see serious injuries. . . . . .

I REALLY hope all has gone well for slides . . . no doubt (i hope) we will get updates as info comes to hand, shit thing about forums is that while we kind of know or know of people in "our community" we could walk past them in the street or at the race track and not put a face to a name . . .

Go well SlideRulz.

Feeling a lot better now after finally getting some food even though my dog eats better, Steve Constable dropped of 2 bags of lollies and a good book.
It's a big relief to see my foot back in the right place and the op went really well apparently, so well I'm wondering if I prematurely retired again, then my wife reminds me that it was the best decision.

Yes Mick it was a bit an eventful day for me as well with my slider catching me unawares about 10feet out of the gate and getting away well till WOOPS this instant wheelie caught me completly by suprise and so violent I lost my grip on the left handle bar, then when I backed off the throttle I did very close inspection of the forks crossbar!. Thanks to Jim for giving me a piece of foam rubber for there it didn't hurt.
Then later on the hateful 2/ [RT1] beast forced me into an instant track inspection on the speedway corner while I was engrossed with the need to catch the afore mentioned Jim piloting his CZ.

 Any how it didn't hurt.

A great day out for all except for Slides and his nasty awkward exit.
Heres to a speedy recovery slides.

Take that back Mick, I didn't crash.
It was just a racing accident, I had consciously backed of a touch because of that bloody cramping in my hands again and Steve came in a little to hot, he said he was trying to lay it down when we hit.
I'm propably lucky he took that action because it would have high sided me and god knows what could have happened then.
They let me home this arvo, at this stage it feels to early but I am glad to escape the food.
I've got a former A grader from the mid 80's who will have a blat around on my bike at the next practice day.
Thanks again guy's all the support has been a bit overwhelming and truely appreciated.

Slidez, Good to hear that you have bolted back together well. . . . .

On a different note i like to openly canvas the forums regular dirt track competitors for suggestions/opinions as to improving the Sydney West Dirt Track Series, primarily race formats classes etc. I feel the meeting went well (personally i had a screaming ball, thank you again Mr Conlon and Mr White)

But . . . . . .
Just cant seem to get through more than 2 and 1/2  rounds
By the time the presentation happens most competitors and all spectators (except helpers and family) have done an "Elvis" and left the building.

Love to gain everyones thoughts.

Again, get well soon SlideRulz

Maybe we would be better off abandoning the 'we must have 3 rounds' concept and instead do two rounds with style.
Even put on an Aces invitation with the 5 top lap times - regardless of what class they were in.  Sliders included, [maybe the chook chasers wouldn't be fast enough to qualify.]

The concept of cutting out a round worked at the last Canberra club day, CoC Darylene aimed for 3 rounds plus practice in race order, instead of 4 rounds plus practice, it took pressure off everyone involved in running the meeting, gave more time for track prep, even had a lunch break.
Obviously we don't have as many classes as Nepean, 19 at last club day, but we finished in good time and
it all ran smoothly.

Hi Wally and Foss, where the hell are all the sliders. Personally I love them and the public would too if there were more than one or two or three on a regular basis. . . . When I was a kid there where plenty of them and racing against them on a chookie was no drama as we were very aware of the different lines etc, the kids now wouldn't have a clue (little experience racing againts sliders) so there are crashes and parents dont like crashes and parents rule the world . . . . . . .

Biggest drama is that few sliders regularly turn out, so they get alienated . . . imagine the other way round 95% sliders and 5% chookies. Chookies would be the poor relation. It sucks but it seems to be the way of the world.

Few sliders turn up because they are treated like " Lepper's " these day's, and that attitude has drifted into the classic classes as well.
I admit that in the old days the riding style of an MX'er and a Slider were totally different, after watching the current stars on their modern MXer's, they now ride much the same as someone on a slider.
The longer they are ostracized the harder it will be to get them back.
Sliders take a lot more development to get them competitive and if someone is prepared to go down that track then good luck to them because when they get it right they are spectacular.
After Billy Mac's grandson end for ended his modern 450 at the national titles in Canberra last year, Billy's comment was, if that was a Hagon you'd chuck it in the bin, that's just another part of the modern equation, durability.
Honestly, I don't know what all the fuss is about, if it's a legal and more importantly a safe bike, let em race.

Good meeting comin' up!  I plan to ride on the Sunday.  Can't be there on the Sat.  Yeah slides its a two-day event, the plan is to run all planned events over the fwo days, hopefully allow to get through the whole program at an easier pace.
My slider should be ok and I want to get used to my old RT1 for the titles in Canberra in Sept.
Glad to hear Grasies mob will be in attendance. Is Matcho Mick bringing the old Velo muffler?
Dono the main straight is pretty good alright!, my eyes get twice as big as I get close to the speedway bend.
cheers pancho.

No guarantees mate---but it has a new piston and bore now so fingers crossed!
Edd at Edds Heads told me "don't run it in at the next race meeting, I know what happens after the gate drops, run it in first"

You won't need to push slides, pulled out the points and cleaned them, spark would now kill a black dog! it jumps 20mm!. Rebored and all, Now I won't tyre out all the pushers before the start of our race!

    Losing a slight advantage!
   cheers pancho

Unless anyone is more the wiser? I'll be out there at around 7.30 tomorrow.
A mate is riding my bike and we're still contemplating staying overnight.
Who's staying over?
I can't wait, I've been couped up for nearly 3 months now and I may be on a mission.
Are the Griffith mafia still making the trip?
I know the " DON " is leaving for the U.S. this weekend so if they do turn up they'll be like headless chook's.

I'll see you young fellers there on Sunday morn bright and early.
Or maybe early, but not bright depending on the weather of cause, not because of  'er indoors opinion of my intellect.

Sadly Huey wasn't kind to us.
Given today's weather the track would've perfect around midday but the pit & spectator areas would've been a total bog.
I spent all day yesterday hobbling through the mud and even managed a few slides, I'm kinda glad I didn't have to trudge through the mud two days in a row.
The club did the best they possibly could to make it happen, sadly the Griffith connection had a wasted trip but did travel into Homebush to watch the Bunnies beat Parra in the NRL, full credit to them because they always display total dedication to the DT cause.
Fingers crossed for the remainder of the season.
