Title: Packing material for silencer
Post by: Husk72 on March 24, 2012, 07:25:30 pm
Blew the old packing out of my Answer silencer a few weeks back. Going riding tomorrow morning very early, and I don't have any suitable material to pack it with.
Just an idea, but would fibreglass batts work??? Unfortunately I'm in the part of the country where certain materials just aren't available, especially before 9am on Sunday.
Other than that, does anyone have any ideas for the best material to re-pack it with.
Any information appreciated.

Thanks MN,thats all I needed to know. Only going to be riding for a few hours today,so the batts will do the job.
Anyway, part 2 of my question, whats the best material to repack a silencer with?

Ballards has a 'Silent Sport' type packer that is very very good and Ballards sell it very cheap.

Thanks,Tim,and Lozza good advice.
Surprisingly the glass batts worked well. After the ride I pulled the thing apart, and no real damage, bar some oil build up was present The batts did their job of quietening the bike, and the bike performed very well. Nice to know there is always something handy that'll suffice til I get the right packing material.
Thanks guys.
