I know im getting on a bit ;D but i have just been told that i am the most ignorant person a bloke has met ;D While i dont contest his opinion as such its his reasoning behind the statement that has me fuct ???
Im the most ignorant person he has met because i refuse to communicate via texting :o to me texting is a medium for kids ( who take to it very well and have created a whole new abbreviation launguage that i choose not to learn or follow.
To me a telephone is a device to communicate verbally with another person , should i wish to communicate via the written word i will use a pen and paper or even Email.
This person is not a child ( well not physically anyway ;)) and the irony is this genius text me to tell me im ignorant and spells it IGNARANT ;D
Thank the Devil for old bikes :) i hate the modern world ::)

I know the feeling only too well, Bill. In the last few weeks, I have been given an iPhone and with that, can download our SoP's and Rules for work onto it. I too was told that I was ignorant because I had NO idea how to achieve this - al that and more from a guy who's level of communication is to drop his head and mumble when you say G'day to him!
-
I suspect I know the sender of the text William.
VMX is the way we can all escape to the good old days......
-
Bill, you can't possibly be the most ignorant person ;) I don't (won't) own a mobile phone personally as I detest the ignorance that goes hand in hand with them so imagine what the guy would think of me :D
-
I'm told I'm not ignorant, just dumb....and living in the past.....when life was so simple.....actually, they do say I'm ignorant. ???
-
Bill - I think they are right about all you guys and I am the only normal one :o
-
Bill your a "good bastard" and i dont give a Feck if you dont text me...lol
-
I must be old i thought TEXTING was something you wrote with a TEXTA pen
-
I don't text. End of story
-
I love texting cause I don't have to talk to the pric*s.
Ignorant and loving it ;)

I was standing in line for sign on at a recent club MX. I was talking to another older (read "fellow grumpy old man!) kiwi guy and we were watching the young guy in front of us. He's busy texting away madly and then he reached the front of the line, still texting.
Then his phone rang and as he went to answer the lady at the sign on desk said "either answer your phone or sign on" he was in a total quandary.
He just stood there looking at his ringing phone, I mean he could have been missing the most important call ever!
Eventually my mate told this clown he didn't have time to wait for him to organise his social life and we stepped past him. He answered his phone and true to her word the lady on sign on didn't let him sign on till he got off the phone and I say good on her!
Young people don't seem to realise that there was a time when a phone on the wall in the house was a luxury.
WE DID EXIST WITHOUT MOBILE PHONES!

I only text people I don't really want to talk to.
So if anyone gets a text, I'm sorry.

What gets me is that most "Back & forth" texting that can take several minutes if not half an hour or so would be over & done with in a 30 second phone call.
My kids would get off the bus & are flat texting to the person they were just talking to. How can anyone have that much to say? (I know, a bit rich coming from me)
I work (Read employed) for Telstra, I was 30 years in the field as a Tech but now I'm in the office (Hiding) and everyone has "Smart phones". I was offered one but refused. The thing is the first thing they get you to do is link your email to it and viola, your at their beck & call 24/7. I have an old flip phone, fits nicely in my pocket (Not on some poofy accessory clip on pouch) does this wonderous thing called "Phone calls". You push a few buttons, someone at the other end goes "Hello" & you converse. What will they think of next. The guys with their iPhones have to push this, slide that, hold their tongue to the left side, stand on one foot. I open the flap & go yep!
My kids "Prank" me so they don't have to pay for the call if it is really neccessary to talk to me (God forbid). Kids I kinda understand with free or 1c text but adults who do it just amaze me. I fine with, leaving now, you at home, coming for a beer (Favourite) stuff like that but when it's "War & Peace". Jimminy Cricket!
The other is they will text you at some ungodly hour justifying it by thinking "At least I didn't ring". The bloody thing still goes off!
My wife just had to have an iPhone. Apparently EVERYONE is on Facetube or Youbook these days so so did she. I said why dont you just call them? Not cool aparently. The other & most importantly is you can play scrabble on it, with anyone around the world. F me! How great is that? Things is she plays with the kids. Now that wouldn't be so bad if they were in Melbourne or something like that but they sit in the same room! We have the board game for christ sakes. (Very religious today aren't I?)
Bill, you're not ignorant, you are actually polite wanting to talk rather than text

all i know is that i am getting very pissed off with these goons texting while they are driving every time lately going into town had close calls mainly on the long straights , you can usually tell by the head angle and they are playing with something around the crutch area , texterbateing. its only a matter of time before my bullbar will be in their lap as well , unfortunate for us older guys as we dont heal as quick

Forget about all these kids texting. The worst is old blokes in their golden years who should be squeezing every minute out of every day they have left. But instead, waste their time posting on forums on the internet when they should jump on a bike and ride around and visit their mates like in the old days when dad wouldn't let you use the house phone.;D
But on a serious note. I was once a philistine, but I realized that you have to keep with the times and modern technology if used as a tool, and not a necessity has it's advantages. Otherwise we would still be living in caves and hammering flints into spearheads.
The funniest is when I see young bloke's out on a date with a pretty girl who looks bored to death while they spend the whole time mucking with their phone. I felt like asking one kid if he could have sex with his phone, because that's all he'll have.

Problem with test and face wa3k etc is it is written down !! you cant deny it!! and the men in black know alll your little secrets ;D :o
-
You're right Taka, people texting while driving is a real scurge, it takes more attention away from the road than if you were actually talking.
At the moment I'm still providing a phone for my 19yo daughter, last bill, 2,500 text messages in a month and 90% of those were to her dimwit boyfriend.
As soon as this plan runs out she's on her own.
Hey James Lee, I text my wife more than anybody else. ;D
-
I dont text. Drives my son nuts! If he really wants to talk to me he can phone, then he KNOWS I got his message.
I particularly love the texters who will ask a question or offer an invitation by text. I consider this style of texting to be especially rude - basically its a claytons invitation by someone who really isnt interested whether you show up to the do at all because if the message isnt received you would never know about the invite anyway. I've had messages show up on my phone 2+ days after they were sent.
And texting while driving - it ought to incur an immediate 3 month license suspension. Bloody ridiculous behaviour. At least if you speed or hoon you are paying attention to the road!
I am officially a G.O.M :D

Nah, I wish! Grumpy Old Man >:(

Texting in the hands of the older and uninitiated can be dangerous
When my Mum heard that a friends mother had passed away she sent a text expressing her sorrow and ended it with LOL. thinking it stood for lots of love!
Suffice to say after a bit of explaining they remain good friends and laugh about it often over a glass of wine!
