Title: MAICOS at 1977 Grand National: Almost a clean sweep ...
Post by: Doggy Digger on March 14, 2012, 06:18:51 pm
Here's an alternate set of results, if dual freight trains Anton and Ron hadn't clipped.

(I like statistics!  And - no - I didn't prefer or ride Maicos in the day.)

So Maico really was the bike to have in '77.. they were not such a force in Qld.
Is that Chris Wright 6th?

JohnnyO,
that was Chris Wright.

Doggy Digger,
how come other riders that crashed after Ronnie and Anton came to grief, didn't get their placings reinstated in your hypothetical outcome ;D

Regards Stan.

Ah, but would the same riders have had different results on another brand?

KTM filled the first 3 spots in the 250 GP's in 77 and were the European privateers choice, the open class Maico were good in 77 as they were in most.

Is Greg Flood related to the better known Floods. Bit like Trevor Chappell! J

That's cool reading through those old programs, i see a few forum members raced that meeting.
Interesting to see Kiwi Peter Ploen won the Grand National way back in '71.. 41 years ago and he's still quick!

Yes he was .. I rode with Brad when I was a young'un .. I think at the time I had just upgraded my XL70 for a CR125M Elsinore ... man did I have a lot to learn.  I recall practicing with Brad at the Albury Wodonga track and thankfully he taught me a couple of things back in those days.  We lived in a house behind my parents shop in Dean St Albury and between the shop and the house was the back of the old hospital servo and a laneway that went down to a couple of workshops.  One of which was Jones and Crib (Brad Jones and Phil Crib) panel shop.  Not sure his brother Kim was there .. I'm certain he was kicking around somewhere.  I did my work experience in that panel shop ... sweeping the bloody floor  ;D

Brad's old man owned the local Volvo Dealership .. Phil Jones Volvo from memory.  And I recall him giving both Brad and Kim an open wheeler race car which I think signalled the end of Brad's motorcross days.  Well, those were my  memories at least .. probably not exactly right but they seem to make sense to me  ;D
