Title: can i use a pre 78 alloy tank on my pre 70 bike

i would like to know if i can use my alloy yz tank on my 250 montesa dirt track bike
it fits well as the back fixing lug has been cut off.

there is nothing wrong with the original just i thought the tank cap is a bit sus only held on by o rings.also i dont want to damage it the gelcoat is unmaked but faded.
