Hey Guys...see the new 2012 rule as follows :
12.8.8.6 A chain guard made of suitable material must be fitted in a way to prevent trapping between the lower drive chain run and the final drive sprocket at the rear wheel
This will mean that Classic Motocross must comply..will mean some work for many... :P

YEr been looking at this. trying to figure out an easy fix........
first thought was cardboard and zip ties, but not sure when it gets wet..... other ideas that just clamp on considered....

Well..if you can get a hold of a "modern" bike chain guide / roller assembly.... they are closed (generally) along the bottom...this may help as an idea...

What bikes don't have these from factory? All of the old Yamahas do, everything with long travel do...

Most Pre 78 and 75 Suzukis will need to be Modified with a ice cream lid ;)

There is that plastic flute that they use to make realestate signs out of like plastic cardboard, coupled with cable ties...

Change the record Wally, I know who you're shooting at and it may have been funny, once.
Dirt Track Sliders never had them from original, from memmory I can't recall any of the early MX style bikes that were used on DT having them either, they were removed or never there.
I understand where they're coming from, but really, what is stopping someones hand from going into the spokes of a wheel? ??? ???

a chain tensioner isnt a factoy finger guard most are too far away from the sprocket to really count as a cover.

This rule has been in RR for some years now, and some Historic RR bikes chose to fit them also.
The rule is here to stay, so it would be a good idea to make something that looks a bit professional tan ice cream bucket plastic or coreflute.
Aluminium ones are easy to make and look good.

The first Elsinores and RM's had just a small single roller chain guide. In most cases a modern chain guide (genuine or aftermarket) will bolt on without much hassle.

Well there you go Al, now that you've pointed that out the modern Speedway bikes have something similar to that.
Probably a good idea but really, how far do you go?
There is a Speed limit on MX, soon there'll be an age limit & we'll all be f*#@ed.

A small piece of rigid metal or plastic sheet would easily make a CR or RM/TM chain guide comply with the new rule.

we could all buy some shite pit bike chain guides that forko reconds are the go ;Dyeah the powers to be go over board on stuff like this and modern plastic chain guides have a habit of making your joining link clip to come off which isnt a problem on modern oring chains since the joining link plate is a press on fit but on std chains youll need to go endless or suffer smashed up cases when the joining link pops on the start line

wtf!!! new rule for old bike is this an oxymoron or what, we ride vmx because soccer, golf n tennis only require one ball!!! what happened to the rule if it wasn't made in that period it aint beein used!!
