Title: XT with SR ignition
Post by: Noel on February 19, 2012, 09:21:20 pm
Question for the bright sparks,

I'm fitting an SR 500 CDI ignition to a XT 500, only using the ignition circuit , do I need to do any thing with the wire's that would go to the rectifier/ regulator to prevent burning out the stator coils?

Cheers
Noel

leave the alternator wires [3 yellow from memory] disconnected and all will be fine and no power lose or burnout of coils will happen, just tape up the connector incase you ever want to use the alternator one day like night time vinduros ;D ;)

Mine runs just as you're setting yours up, ignition only.

The other wires are not connected and I've never tried to run lights to see if that part of the circuit is ok.

Same as the two previous replies.

I have been running a SR electrical system on one of my XTs for quite a few years now for use in road trials. When the bike is stripped down to VMX trim, I just make sure the alternator wires/plug is secure and insulated, and never had any problems.
