I've used Google earth in the past. Type in your start and end points and it lays out the route.
But, neither Google earth or me can help with road conditions though.

Freaky is right just watch out for the wild life if you plan to drive at night, the Roo's around Broken Hill are plentiful at night, if your gonna hit one, hit the big Red one he's fat and like a big pillow, dont hit the little rock wallaby's there just a ball of muscle and do way more damage...... :D :D

I would go Down to the local Interstate Truck Depot and ask the Drivers the best way as
they would also know the latest Road Conditions as well that's what i do if i use the Back
Way at all..

buy a uhf radio you don't need anything fancy most of that route will be on channel 40 you will hear or you can ask for road reports you will also hear the truck drivers tell each other were coppers are road closures due to accidents and other helpful information.if you decide to go a different way and end up on the pacific hwy between syd and bris they use channel 29.enjoy your trip cheers.
