my boy is off to work in Port Hedland WA, as most would know, Mike and I love our enduro riding, VMX second, it will be sad to see him go as we ride most weekneds , but that's life, can anyone give me some info for him on riding in this region, what he can expect, what he needs to know, and also is there any VMX events around. Just so we know whether to ship his bikes or not.

not much VMX up there Worms - but miles of trail riding.

hey worms,
They have a North West MX Round series, its not run under MA though. If this is what the lads after,,there will be some miles involved in attending.
There are plenty of two day and enduro rides though out the year also.
Whim Creek desert race is still run - one way 200 odd km..
You could perhaps give the Kununurra MWA Club a ring and get some more heads up on events etc,but be prepared its fork hot racin...as in temp hot... :P :P

Don't crash...... the boy and his bike will never look the same. Harsh harsh country up that part of town.

One of my boys has been up at Dampier now and previously at Port Hedland for some years. Has he ever been in a cyclone? Tip avoid the bikes during one ;) Tim754
PS buy a red dust coloured race bike as they are well camouflaged during events.
PPS if he is a competent Heavy Fabrication engineer I know a maintenance company manager in Dampier( ;)) that is always on the lookout :)
PPPS take note of what IT490K1983 posted ...seriously.

Hi all and thanks for a bit of a heads up, Mike just finished mech engineering aerospace with honours, he has a great offer with a start a port Hedland, so if he goes I wont get to see much of him. Thanks for the info Tim, I will pass it on to Mike.

A little while back when working in NW W.A. I saw an almost new KXF 450 that had been dropped once on a ride (apparently just a regular drop and slide sort of crash) and fair dinkum it looked more like old mate had hooked it up behind his 4 x 4 and drug it up the black top for a few ks. Ouch!! The rider had some bark missing as well.

The ground up there will be like Darwin in the dry. I strongly reccomend full body armour ie a pressure suit.
It has saved a lot of my skin!

I have only just (5 months ago) moved back to the Pilbara and live just up the road from Pt Hedland - well, "just" is 200kms. There is PLENTY of riding to be done up here, esp out of Hedland, the Club up there is active, but not switched onto VMX. I have my '73 CR 250 Honda and H7 250 Monty with me, and they'll be getting a run sometime - even if it is during the North West MX and Enduro races!
Trev> send me a pm and I can give you both a bit more of the lowdown.

Hey Worms,
Are you saying that there is an aerospace industry in Port Hedland? :D I thought most of the vehicles up there travelled quite a bit slower than that...
Congrats on getting his degree & honours!!
It's fun watching them grow up.

thanks for all that guys and gals,
all i can say is that time goes so fast when your having fun,
the company he is going to, has many oportunities for him to grow. thank god he didnt build any rockets at home, i wasnt even allowed to watch the firing of his scram jet, i had grand plans of taking some tinnies and a deck chair but it was only in a wind tunnel.
glad he takes after his mother.
