Excellent Dave! You've set the scene - now for the big reveal! :D
-
Thanks paul.
Steve Cramer raced an Ossa Stilletto 250 in 1972 when de coster was out here, and I do remember seeing ossa stilletto being raced in 69 and 68.
This one has no frame numbers but have been told that the early models didn`t have any frame numbers, I bought the bike knowing it was a 4 speed, but not that sure now
Engine number m322241, Because I would like to race it in pre70, the 175 stilletto would be eligible, does any body know if a 5 speed engine can be turned into a 4 speed.

Sorry Dave
All that is 5 speed 71/73 mx enduro
Tank is late model stiletto early 4 speed had small round tank badges
Betor alloy forks 70 on models early were steel yokes/legs
Rear wheel looks to be Pioneer
322 engine is 72 mx??
And no a 5 speed rear frame mount change to suit a 4 speed crankcase offset is only way to go back to the early cases
The later 5 speed had a way better gearbox than a early 4 speed model
Pre 70 never
Cheers

oops Dave, that buggers the OSSA for pre '70 by the look of it. It's a shame as it would have added some variety and colour to the class. As an aside, I chopped one of these up to create my DT1 from Hell back in the early 90's*. I used the front half of the frame, forks, yolks and front wheel in the DT1. The OSSA front brake is the worst I've ever used, I fitted super soft linings, a shorter actuating arm, a thick cable and even modified the actuating cam for more purchase.....all to no avail. It looks good though!
* Don't hate me, it was a total basket that some moron had fitted a DT1 engine to using angle iron and a stick welder and had the worst laydown shock converstion I ever saw....both shocks were at different angles! I did it a favour cutting it up for my project ;D

Question, ossa 175 engine is the stroke the same as a 250 60mm, would a 250 barrel fit a 175 cases. my front forks are Ceriani forks which will be eligible for pre 70.
This photo of the OSSA is 1969 model

Dave
The 1965 175cc motor 60mm stroke 61mm bore maybe a 250 barrel will fit the crankcase mouth, might need machining out if the stud are in the line with the bigger barrel
Cheers

Is it a keeper dave or a shed project
-
Hi Bazza, this is my shed project and a Keeper, this will be my race bike.
-
Hope you enjoy it then dave

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A 175 STILLETTO ENGINE AND ANOTHER 250 STILLETTO ENGINE. SO l SHOULD BE RIGHT NOW.
-
Why not complete the bike fully stock as a 1972 250 MX 5speed, because that is what it is. It will be a nice ride in pre75, and will definately add some variety to the class. Not the quickest in a straight line, but fast around a track. I looked at that bike, but like you I wanted a pre70 mount.
-
I no what you mean, pre70 is a little more relaxed than pre75.

175 ossa stilletto
I think the ossa and AJS stormers are under rated.
