Title: Will Victoria and Queensland riders travell?
Post by: bazza on December 10, 2011, 12:03:13 pm
Having been to all C/dirts and Nats in Victoria,it is easy to see cost of travell and time off work to travel along way to a meeting. If the C/dirt goes back to NSW aprox in the middle travel wise,do you think more would travel? Could be bigger than Ben Hur.

To quote the movie 'Field of Dreams'......."If you build it, he (they) will come.
Klub Kevlar will be there in force...being only an hour or so from home. ;)

To grow the sport and give everyone an opportunity to experience VMX on a grand scale, I would like to see a CD-Qld, CD-NSW, CD-Vic, CD-SA, CD-WA and a CD-NT each year and every year. Just evenly spaced out so there is a good chance to get interstate attendance. Each state to hold it's own Classic Dirt every year and open to all. I would like to see growth and positive public awareness in our sport.

We travelled over 4,000 klm's round trip from Victoria to this years CD and would have done it again next year but the NSW alternative will make it much easier for us to attend. We had a great run in the early CD days and think it only fair to share the venues around. Can't wait ;D

2 years ago I drove to queensland for the oz titles, had a couple of rides and it was great, it was wonderfull just to be there, I would like to do it again, it would also be good to share the Classic dirt around state by state, if it was more central for all, a small outback country town with natural terrain track the people of that town would grab it with open arms which would help their community,  looking forward to next year.  the core crew that keep going would probably go where ever it is , you might get a few more if its closer but not alot .I think its more about having a full calender than the distance.

Can't be expecting much of a turn-out if nobody knows where it is.
And no worms. I'll give the Magoo charity ride a miss this year.

Wallerawang, just west of Lithgow. I have no idea why nobody seems to have mentioned where it is, the announcement takes up half of page 78 of VMX 48. ::)

Thank goodness somebody finally let the cat out of the bag... we didn't realise it would take so long.

Where: Wallerawang, just west of Lithgow. Lithgow is less than 2 hours west of Sydney [at the base of the western side of the Great Dividing Range].
Date: 7-9 September 2012
Tracks: all virgin tracks* specifically for CD9, designed by Geoff Ballard

More info will be posted on the VMX web site www.vmxmag.com.au as it is confirmed.

*and no, that means the tracks will be on virgin terrain, not tracks for virgins. Heaven knows, apart from Yamaha riders, there aren't any of those on this forum...

Kevin

I don't see alot of comments about each state having it's own Classic Dirt each year, would this not be a good thing and help grow the sport? It was at Classic Dirt 6 that I decided to get a bike and get back into riding, I went as a spectator and left as a fan. I would think that the Classic Dirt Event has been responsible for more members joining QVMX and BMCC etc... Why can;t we have a CD in every state of Australia? I can only see this as a good idea.

You need to be a Wang Wallera to ride a sidecar don't you. ;D
I reckon one in each state might be a bit of an overload but it should definitely alternate.

Good idea in some ways, bad idea in others.

First thing to remember is that this is the baby of VMX magazine, and as the promoter they ultimately decide when and where it’s to be held.
If they were busy organizing 7 classic Dirts in the same year then they would have no time to produce a magazine

If it was held in every state in the same year it would take some of the shine from the event.
Not as many people would make the trip interstate if they had one in there own backyard.
There are lots of things that make the CD events great and one of them is the gathering of people from many states, and even countries.

I have said before that each state could/should put on a HBBC type event that covers all types of motorcycle of an earlier era and even a Goodwood type of event wouldn't go astray but hey, there is only so many weeks in a year.
The other problem is finding places to have any event let-alone a HBBC.
It looks to me that Wallerawang is the Conondale of middle-eastern Australia (geographically-nothing to do with the population  :D)
Hope to be there.
