Title: JBR images
Post by: crankpin on November 20, 2011, 11:33:47 pm

I'm trying to replicate the old school JBR decals but I'm struggling to find any colour images of these ones.

Has anyone got any colour photo's they could scan in?

Or does anyone know of a book or magazine with colour shots of this bike?

Cheers,

Si.

That magazine is mine but there is no colour photos. I could try scanning the pics bigger and that may help you a bit?

That would be most helpful.

Many thanks.

It may take me a while to find that magazine and i may forget, so if you do not hear from me before the end of the week please remind me with a PM.

My memory has just been jogged and i think i have a scan of a JBR sales brochure. If i dont, i have a friend who has an original JBR brochure, so i will look into that too.

If you click on the MXM picture it does go to a bigger size, I also save a copy of it and then just made it bigger to get a better look at it.

Before you go to far I think I should mention Simon (Crankpin) is a proper decal shop I have seen his work first hand, and he knows what he is talking about.

Yet to prove that. !!
You and a Kiwi fella where going to share some photos of some special spots on that UK trip  ;D  ;)
cheers A

I will post some soon  :) i just want to check with Rod that its ok  :) rod showed both steve and I awesome hospitality and was very happy for us to take photographs and videos  ;D But i think it would only be right to check with him first about posting them publicly . The visit to Rods place was equally as exciting as the farleigh trip , Rod is a real Artisan and he has some amazing bikes and an incredible knowledge of the history of the sport. Every bike told a story and you could almost taste the history within  8)
Steve probably has better photos than mine as my box brownie aws getting a bit tired by then  ::)
Will check its cool and then both Steve and I can post them  :)

 ;)

MXM don't do the design I'm after. Thanks for the effort anyway  8)

Got the outline drawn up, just need the colours.

First time I've ever been called 'proper' Steve, not too sure if I fit the bill...  :P  ;D

And Ali's right, get posting those images  :)

Got these on here now. Scanned from an original brochure. I do have larger copies but this is about as big as i can get on here. Would be pretty rare this brochure. Have not got to finding that magazine yet though. Have you still got the WP's on yours? they are not easy to find either.

I only have black and white for the french magazine article. The best i can do is scan them bigger, but if thats no good i wont worry about looking for that magazine. I will ask my friend if he has any  colour pics though.

The JBR chassis looks just sooooooooo sweet, but the bodywork just screams 'Pommy Cottage Industry'. It really ruins an otherwise great looking bike... those side covers look like they are off an Italian 50cc.

Such a pity...  :(

I don't know I think the 'Pommy Cottage Industry' look is what makes the JBR appealing, it gives it that classic English flavour, like a pie floating in brown sauce. ;D

Rod Spry builds them.. hope you're cashed up! I'd say there'd be a fairly long wait also looking at the amount of projects he does.

Does it have an relationship to the Curtis Honda just the frames look pretty close, JBR swingarm is much cooler with a banana in it. Curtis frames I believe were a modified HL frame.

.

The same man built the HLs and the Curtis bikes ~ Brian Curtis, so no surprises that they share similiar ingredients. Brian also built rather a lot of Metisse's when he worked for the Rickmans.  Master craftsman is ever there was one

You wont have to wait long for pro pics as they were being taken with the owner and builder by a magazine photographer.

It is a 'standard' production model from Rod Spry if there ever was such a thing a 'standard' for a hand made custom build bike!

So keeping my subscription up to Classic Dirt Bike was a good move.

I have been on at Geoff for years now to build an HL frame adapted for an XR motor.... be nice to have another 4 stroke special option down under. ;)
