Title: KTM350 Freeride
Post by: brent j on November 10, 2011, 08:38:49 pm
I've been thinking over buying a new bike for trailriding but can't decide what I really want, until now maybe.

I've just read a short test on the 2012 KTM350 Freeride. There's some interesting stuff online about them and they seem to me to be close to my ideal bike. Sort of an enduro/trials hybrid
This could be the perfect trailbike.
Shades of Bultaco Alpinas and Yamaha TY250CATS

I wonder how much they will be............................... ::)

I'm with you Brent. That thing (the 350 version, not the electric one) looks like my ideal playbike. How much fun could you have on one of those?

Have you seen video on u-tube? Ok the guys are probably expert trials riders but the bikes look to be quite capable.

Imagine if they were ADR'd as well 8)

I reckon I could ride one of those all day and still be able to walk afterwards!

Seen the Scorpa T-ride?

I like the look of that one too Ola. I know Scorpas are available in Australia but no one in my area supports them

I'll certainly be waiting and watching for details of the KTM though.

I was reading the power figure Brett and I think at 28 hp it may not have enough top end for you, but for weaving through the mangroves dodging the Crocs an engine tuned for torque rather than hp might be a good thing. It is light, grunty, for rocky trail rides and Kiwi conditions where it is steep and slippery .... yeah I am pretty sure I want one badly ;D

Marc I reckon the power delivery is just what I want. The only "top end" type motor I have is my TM125 race bike.

The power of the detuned 350 is close to my XT500's and probably has similar torque. We don't have much in the way of hills but what's here is mainly rocky escarpment type stuff and it's a lot of eroded, loose rock. My KTonda (XR200 powered KTM) does very well in this type of riding especially with the very plush suspension I run but I have to say I would like a bit more power.

I'll be watching these things very closely

I went to a Husky ride day yesterday and took the 310  for a ride. I think it would be a great bike to ride when you set it up for yourself.I hate to admit it but this bike has really impressed this Yamaha loving man. Darcy

Yeah I reckon at 98kgs and with plenty of torque you could make a few 450s look silly at the local trail ride or enduro for that matter. I was riding my mates KTM 450 SX that he bought for trail riding the other day, it was a bloody shocker.... by the time the back wheel stopped spinning you were out of gears  ::) ......told him to buy a DRZ

Doesn't SX stand for supercross? ??? :o ;D.......and EXC stands for enduro cross country.  :-*

hmm yes but when your ego takes over you want the fastest thing you can get.....then of course comes the drama of gearing it up to compensate for only having 4 speeds, then you have a first gear taller than a 916 and actually it ends up like a lot of 500 2 strokes used to be in the old days.
