Title: I've finally finished my RM125X/Z ..... properly!
Post by: tzeggy14 on November 06, 2011, 03:54:52 pm
.
Its taken me almost 6 years, but I've finally finished restoring the old RM125 I bought for (from memory) $90.

It began as this: (http://www.tz350.net/images/pictures_to_link/1981_rm125x_as_found.jpg)

Ending up as this:

I've taken it for a couple of "shakedown" runs at Mt. Kembla. I made a few minor tweaks and now it rides like new!

Congratulations you have done a great job, as mick says they are a sweet bike and were by far the best 125 in 1981  :)
I have a real nice one that was restored by a former Forum member and its a keeper  :)

Awesome job,i love that era RM, i always remember reading how that full floater rear end was so far ahead of anything else, one of those with the blue saftey seat ceet used to make is just pure horn material.

cheers Dale.

Awesome job....RM125X was my first competitive MX bike that was bought on my apprentice wages. It was kick ass ... suddenly anything was fair game, it out classed all 125s, plus anything else with twin shocks.  ;D ;D

Nice job matey....I love a good basket case make over. Don't worry about the six year build time, I know many that have taken much longer than that, including my mate who's into the 10th year of his HL build.
You take as long as money, time and interest allows. ;)

Nice job Greg! My local shop has what looks to be the same year RM125 in his barn, If the guy doesnt pick it up by the end of the winter its mine, it been there 8 months already. Figured I would build it for one of my girls. Also I get the 6 year build time, my TT500 will be that long before its done "right"

Cheers, Chris

Thanks fellas!

Restoring old bikes is probably my favourite thing to do apart from sex and riding motorbikes!

It was SO satisfying to finally ride the thing. I had a grin from ear to ear as it got "on the pipe" for the first time!

Next up is the 1980 KX125-A6 I have here. Its currently in no better than the condition the RM was in. :-)
