Silly question, but what does it do?

No such thing as a silly question Mr mainline.I'll try not to give a silly answere. A battery eliminater;eliminates the need for a battery. I think it has a capaciter in it that holds a charge so the alternater gets a charge.Perhaps some one on the forum can enlighten us further. p

No good for electric start only bikes but yes, ok for kickstart bikes. Good to piss off those horrible leaky lead acid batterys. You wont be able to use things like parklights or any 12 volt accessories while the engine is turned off though. All the electrics will only work when the engine is running. Battery eliminators are nothing new though. Does anyone remember the the blue Lucas 2MC capacitors? They were often fitted in parallel to the battery enabeling emergency starting If your battery went flat. The capacitor would hold enough charge when kicking over the bike to provide voltage to the coil. Sort of makes it like a self generating magneto system like found on many motocrossers i guess. Bottom line is most of these battery eliminators are nothing more than a glorified electrolytic capacitor that can be bought from an electronics store.
