Title: SR/TT500 ignitioncoil
Post by: ola_martin on November 04, 2011, 12:17:07 am
I have a SR500 engine in an aftermarket frame, and are having some issues in placing the secondary coil. I think I've read here that the XT/TT one will work just as well and are a bit smaller? Does anyone know an even smaller one that will work??
Thanks
Ola

Would a new coil work, like this Kokusan from a modern 4stroke mx?

don't think so.

SR-Ignition is CDI-based, XT-Ignition has contact breaker points.

I've been running my XT motard with SRcdi it is running the standard XT coil. It hasn't missed abeat in 6 years with this setup. I know the electronic gurus will tell you the ohm resistance is all wrong but it works.

That was the early models, the last of the TT / XT's also had CDI

ok, my fault. Here in Europe the XT was only available with contakt breaker points. I've heard about the CDI-XT (4R9) for the US-Market.
