Woooo ;D ;D ;D
99% done and its alive! I just dont have a chain to make it move. LOL
Dad and I couldnt be happier how it has turned out, our first major project is all but finished.. and the noise it makes is fantastic!
Only thing left is to finish polishing the front guard (ran out of compound)
get a chain - fit and adjust axle.
swap shock spring for the one thats at powdercoaters.
And the exhaust is from a C model so when i find a good X exhaust ill swap em over.
I kicked it 4 times, got the camera going for the 5th and it fired up like a champ and sounded so sweet. I even had the plus lead slighty loose in case of needing to kill it quickly haha.
cannot wait to get a chain and take it for a ride!

Very nice job. Well done. You have just raised the bar for everyone.
THAT is too good to ride ;)

The digital pictures make it look a little better than it does in life.
digital tends to hide some scratches, the wheels are not perfect as they were in pretty bad shape. Just some small stuff nothing major.

I reckon it looks pretty damn good to me, especially for your first effort. I've seen bike builds from blokes who've been doing it for years that are way below this little X in standard. Good work Stevo ;).

very nice , well done . she looks too good to race .

Wow, that is awesome. Great job.
-
Yep, well done, that's one sweet resto.
You should be proud of your first time effort.
-
I shudder to recall that I broke up an immaculate but engine shagged YZ125X back in the early 90's for the wheels for one project, the tank for Jonesy's SL125 Elsinore and the engine stripped and the various parts going to other club members projects. The seat went on my Champion XL350. I think I threw the frame over the fence at Penrith wreckers. :-[ In those pre Evo and pre '78 days the bike had no use other than for parts.
I guess we learn from our mistakes :'(.

Gday jim.
Im not entirely sure, as dad stripped the carby down and put it back. but i know we bought a carby kit on ebay from america. It was to suit yz125x, and kx400's. Im sure it was to stock specs/jet. I just had a quick look on ebay and cant find them now maybe it was the last one?
After i speak to dad ill get back to you on that one.

thanks mate. We did get a bit carried away, so wont be racing this one. I dont think we will ever ride it on the dirt ???.
We've got another X that had a buggered motor and a few parts missing, that we are now going to build to ride/race.
-
Stevo that is a fantastic job, and you've kept it looking 100% original.. well done :)
-
Awesome job. Mn you must have alot of patience.
-
I showed this to my non VMX wife - and even she thought it was good - well done - love to see successful restos.
-
Great job! very neat! cheers pancho.
-
WOW top job Steveo :) I can still remember first hearing the sweet sound of a X when one arrived at our local track it looked an sounded fast compared to our TMs and Hodakas. I look at my TM and RM all the time and see the imperfections of my work but nobody else see's them, its our own critical veiw of the resto we do to prevent others from pointing out faults.I am trying to live with it ;)
Cheers Nob

You have done a wonderful jod on the X, and trust me, you will love riding/racing it. Dont listen to anyone if they say a thing about the rims or anything else that you might think isnt totally spot on because at the end of the day its so much easier to just buy new stuff an bolt it on than try to restore original equipment. This bike is a credit to you, and I hope you have alot of fun on it.

Very, very nice . . . . . Great job

nice work Steve, very cool that you were able to work on the project with your Dad too. Looking forward to seeing some pics of this DG bike you've mentioned
-
yeah its been great working on it with dad, he is stoked about it. Which is great becuase he hasnt really had any hobbies just worked all the time, but since i dragged this out from his shed he has been right into it!
Pics of the DG bike will be up soon, when we start on it! Its going to be a racer (well, rider im not so into racing) and ill do a full build up on here.
