Title: YZ 250 bars
Post by: walshy on October 13, 2011, 07:22:04 pm
Trying to find a set of bars for my 1979 YZ 250f. I am 6'3" and like to ride with my hands above my knees! Does anyone know of a brand that makes a high 22mm bar other than protaper and renthal.(tried them)
Cheers.

Jump out of a tree a few times until you become more normal-sized

Big part of the problem is the swept-bar bar mounts on the top triple, and the long forks that stop you using a top triple clamp with conventional mounts.
If you can work out a way to deal with the long forks, you could investigate something like YZ125K triples that have straight bar mounts. I couldn't believe the difference they made on my KDX.

Quad bike bars are popular if you really want a high bar.
Personally, I hate anything higher than Renthal 764s, because they make it very hard to get your weight forward, esp with the stock top triples.

Cheers Nathan.  Looks like I can use an "MX7" steel bar from msc. ( I think)

Be aware that a lot of the high-rise steel bars also have a lot of sweep - they jam your elbows into your rib cage and make it hard to steer. Presumably this is because they're designed for old style road bikes.

I have a strait set of original bars of a YZ465 81 model they are black for a reasonable price,if you would like them.
