Post by: DJVGXL on October 11, 2011, 09:15:31 pm
Just a quick question for a mate with a 87 xc 430. Is there high level oil screw like on jap bikes when filling gear box? If there isn't how much oil do these boxes hold? Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Normally ST20 or Belray 85 wt.
The ST20 you can't get .
Closest is SAE 30 which is available from Bunnings and Supercheep and is for Briggs n Stratton mowers.
Penrite is the name.
Black bottle.
Buy the 2 litre one from Supercheep cause it's cheeper.
Note* ST is the old straight oils that I remember as a kid.

Yes good point Mike,  re- SAE 20 oil.

Sorry David,   I was reading straight off the the spec sheet.

I took my 430 WR to a two day trail ride a couple of weekends ago and I tried  (for the first time ) the Penrite Monograde SAE 30 oil in the gearbox.

Well the bike ran fantastic, shifted perfectly and even on the Sunday morning cold start, no problems. I drained the oil out when I got home and apart from a very slight purple tinge, the oil looked good. Happy with the results, I put some more SAE 30 back in.

cheers
