Oh dear-now I'll have to retro-fit the Wasp with drum brakes and short shocks-just to fit in.
Sounds like a great plan though Super.
BTW what happened to Harrisville-20 mins from my home.

I liked the Harrisville venue but it would have taken some work to hold the Nats there.

That's great.......This being the first Nats under the new split system should be bigger than Ben Hur. After watching the Crystal Brook event on telly and seeing the full pre 75 grids it's fairly obvious to me that at Nationals level, the pre 75 division is still the most supported in our sport so now that the older classes have their own event we can now push for even more growth within the ranks, especially from the pre 65 and pre 60 classes.
Pre 60 has been the forgotten class for so long that it's often been left out of the program because of a lack of numbers. Since the organisers have announced that pre 60 is to be the featured class I've heard of a number of bikes being prepped to appear including Jonesy's exotic Monark 500 and my own proposed TriBSA. I've also heard of a BSA Goldstar, an historic pre unit TriBSA and Matchless G80 being dusted off for the event.

It's also a great opportunity to get the pre '78 class up and running a bit stronger than it has in the past. Pre '78 is the ideal 'crossover' class for guys from the later era scene to compete on bikes with a bit more suspension than the pre 75 bikes offer. Bikes for the pre '78 class are often overlooked which is a shame as there are some grounbreaking products from that era like the first series RM's and mid series Yamaha monoshocks.

Whatever class you support, the 2012 Classic MX Championships will be a ripper.

I've already booked holidays for June and maybe a bit more. I'm hoping there are a few other vintage meets close to the same time to make the trip really worthwhile, anything within 1,000km is worth considering.

Firko, I'll get a chance to see if my "swingarm of no gods" is legal too.

Oops. That's been done. 2012!  ;D
Remember that the '07 Nat's at Coffs Harbour was the first event that included pre '78, so it has been done before and very successfully as well.

A racer once said to me that he couldn't understand why guys go out there to waffle around in mid-pack without any chance of winning. The fact that I had to try and explain why we do it mean't that he'd never understand. Could you imagine how dreary our sport would be if you subtracted those who are competing just for the sheer fun of it?

I do it for the fun of it. 99% of the meets i race in are  me racing the old pre 75 sidecar against the pre 85's. I'm never going to beat them but i love getting out there amongst them, ow and the bulshit that goes on in the sidecar fraternity keeps me coming back each week lol.

Can understand Eml's statement though. I was just consistant at the gazi spectacular having only just a couple of race meets under my belt. Somehow ?  we walked away with a first place trophy. I reckon they felt sorry for me.

To me if I finish the day with all the claret still inside and some of the bikes running its a win . I just hate to see old race bikes or cars in museums or storage . put them out on the track if you break something then its the fun of the hunt ( ebay ) to get the part . Finished last in each pre 70 250 race at 2011 nats and ended up 9th .

I'm applying for a grant to assist with travel costs and the application asks for the name of the organising club.

Any help greatly appreciated

While checking the MQ site for details of the nats I found their event calender.

What a month June is going to be. Starting on the 3rd with the Townsville VMX club, then the Nats, Heaven at the lakes the weekend after then back to Brisbane for the BMCC meet at Biddadaba. Four Vintage events on four consecutive weekends, can it be better?

I’m just sorting the holidays and trip now.

Everyone has different ideas but I reckon you guys have it pretty good over that side………

:) Hi Brent J we do have it good here in Queensland with all the varied tracks and clubs. June is particularly good this end of qld
with having BMCC holding MX Championships at Wyaralong and QVMX holding their 2 day event at end of month at Biddadaba.
I am very lucky to be living close to both and looking forward to riding at both.
I am sure you will enjoy your holiday over here then. Regards Lisa QVMX/Foxys better half

Hi, I rode the wyaralong track, also known as " QLD MOTO PARK" about two weeks ago, Its a good track, lots of berms, also some big jumps but us old guys can can just roll over them, only thing I hope they change is where the pits are, about 400 meters from the track, Its only been open about 3 weeks so hopefully they will change that, they might be in the process of doing that, we'll see

I am really looking forward to this trip as you can imagine.
I have a fun day and four natural terrain MX meetings here in the months leading up to QLD.
There might be one or two vintage bikes at these meets so it's really good to race other VMX bikes and similar vintage riders instead of kids on their moderns.

you can go on youtube and type in "wyaralong motorcycle park" or "qld moto park" and theres a few video's, but like the last post said they might not have built the vmx track yet

They are still to build the Natural Terrain track which should be starting soon. There are no starting gates as it's a ride park facility not a race track.
They won't be changing the parking area (pits) for a one off vintage meeting but i believe they will modify 1 of the moto tracks to suit.

Would be a pity if the pits are as far away as is stated from the tracks, as we all like to watch while working on bikes, hope they have a good think, about the fact we're there for a 3day meet

I wouldn't go on what's there now, they still have the natural terrain track to build. The existing tracks are visible from the car park now.
Wait til they finish building the place, it'll be different for the Nats anyway.

thought the ide of the split was to push it back to 2 days racing at worst ?

Hi James
This is the first year of "the split". That is from now on the Australian Titles events will be held over two events. The Pre '75 and earlier classes will run at the Classic Titles and the Pre '78, Evo, Pre '85 and Pre '90 classes at the Post Classic event. This year the Classic Titles are in Queensland while the Post Classic Titles are to be held in Tasmania later this year.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Shaun

Post by: VMX247 on January 29, 2012, 05:39:19 pm
You will all notice a big change in the rules for 2012; the split has now taken place and there is now Classic MX for Pre 78 and older and Post Classic MX for pre 90. There are a few points that should be made so here we go
Classic MX;Everything remains effectivly the same except we are adding acceptable follow-on machines and 2 examples are the DT250B and TS400 center port models. Why? these bike are essentially the same as pre 75 bikes and cheap and available; there must be ways for people to get entry level bikes and this move is designed to make it accessable and cheap to get a bike and go racing.
In the pre 65 and pre 60 please note the frame section that will allow you to build a special easily but keep in mind you will still need period engine, forks, wheels etc and the bike can not be made using components from a later era. For example you cant use a head stock from a YZ80 in your made up frame or triple clamps from a 73 Canam.
Post Classic MX;
Pre 90 is in
Age racing in EVO
Otherwise the same as it was
Brisbane has the Classic MX Championship for 2012 and Tasmania the Post Classic
Canberra has put in for the Dirt Track and it may well be negociated to run a combined meeting for the DT alone. There is strong interest for the MX Nats for future years but as yet no proposals for the 2013 and onward events
The section 18 of the rule book has been removed and completly replaced with simpler rules that should make it a lot easier to understand

James its pre78 and everything older at classic titles and everything from 78 to 89 in post classic titles. So the answer to your question is yes 77 model bike will run at queensland this year. 2seven just got that one muddled up.

                                    2012 Classic Motocross National Championships

                                                               UPDATE

Well we have our major sponsors in place, that is "Naming rights" and the four "Feature" sponsors which make up the new poster and programn cover. This means the promotion blitz can start in earnest.

We have some class and special sponsors already but are seeking more. Sponsorships available are:-

Class Naming rights which include a feature ad. in the programn adjacent to that race, the right to a fence banner and small display.  $300.00

Class Naming rights with heading above the rider list for that race. $200.00

Special Award such as "Best performance by a Yamaha" ,Spirit of Vintage" "Best Rat Bike" etc     $100.00

Volunteers-- Anyone who can help leading up to the event, and/or during the event, or who have relevant skills or equipment, please advise me or Glenn Wollenweber [[email protected]]. We will be more specific as we get closer.

Sup-regs should be out in a week, and we need to promote to  riders and public strongly to ensure it's success.

Connondale and Chrystal Brook set a high standard to live up to, so we need to make every effort.

It is the first under the new "split" format so drag out the older bikes and bodies. Pre60 is the "Feature class" It's also an opportunity for the Pre78 guys to be the "modern glamour" class.

There will be updates as we go along

Sup regs now with the Commissioners, I'm promised they'll be on the MA web-site by the end of the week.
We laid out a preliminary track yesterday and the venue looks great.
Just found out Willowbank has a big drag meeting on the same weekend so accommodation is going to be scarce. Caping are is right alongside the track, but those wishing motel acc. better move. Nearest towns are Boona, Beaudesert, Harrisville. Canungra is a bit further.Let us know if you are having difficulty.

What happened to a pre 85 sidecar support class? l thought they were to be included? My own opinion but to do 3 race's and call yourself an Australian champ bit of a joke realy l mean come on.. Wouldn't it be better to do 5 race's and drop your worst result, l feel sorry for the guy who travels from all over to have a DNF or a bad race and lose the chance of doing ok.

Both MA and the BMCC event committee decided that Pre78 was for all classes.Walter advises that some Pre85 sidecars can be made to be comply Pre75 without too much modification, but I am no expert on that.
I would like to run more races, but there is not the time to do that.Every CMX Nats i've been to in the last 15 years has had a3 round event. If you're willing to call all the Champions over all those years, "jokes" you're a braver man that me Popeye.

Popeye all thru the 70's and 80's the Australian Motocross Titles were decided over 2 moto's on 1 day ;)

How long were the race's John? 20-30 mins plus a lap?  What is 3 race's these day's, some track's 20 min some l guess a little more. Being a long weekend at this event l don't see how there would not be enough time Col to run more race's, with the split haven't they just dpopped 12 race's from the program Evo 125-250-500-pre 85 sidecars, where did that time end up?
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: supersenior 50 on March 03, 2012, 06:31:52 pm
One of the factors with the split was to re-introduce full age catagories as was the case before Evo and Pre78 classes were introduced. This adds probably 12 races.
We are guaranteeing Pre 60 ( the featured class) a start in an endeavour to re-vitalise that class.
There is a Ladies support class with a view to that becoming a MA recognised class by next year.
A lot of riders in favour of the split saw it as an opportunity to go back to a two day event.
Friday will be scrutineering, sign on, track inspection etc.
Saturday siting laps and racing
Sunday racing
Monday trail riding at the facility, travel, sight seeing or whatever.

If the grid is not filled with open class bikes Im sure the promoters will allow a 250 to race , In  2011 at SA there where 250 s in the open classes . There is also the age class , so with one pre 75 250 there are a possible 4 races . pre 75 250, pre75 open , age pre 75 250 , age pre 75 open .

Its just common sence if a 250 is over size naturally it runs in the open class, but not aloud to run in the 250 class. If you think that you can get away running a 250 in the open class then the steward on the day isn`t doing his job.
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: supersenior 50 on March 04, 2012, 05:00:18 pm
Hi Ekka-- you can ride your Pre75 bike in two classes ( for the price of one )
1 250cc age race
2 250cc open (all ages )
If your later bike is Evo, you have the same situation in the Tas event
So mate this wanker is looking at the wider picture.
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: supersenior 50 on March 04, 2012, 05:09:54 pm
In CMX there is no "Open" capacity class. The term "All Powers"
is used when all capacities are to run together.
The big bore class is "263cc+" so a 250 can't run in this class.
Yes there will be rider age specific classes in each capacity in Pre75, plus open rider age classes in each capacity of Pre75.
Note:- as stated in Sup-regs 40 max starters in any class, so get those entries in early ( same as Crystal Brook )
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: albrid-3 on March 04, 2012, 10:21:31 pm
125 scratch race means 125 only (nothing over that standard size.)
250 scratch race means  only 250
263 and over scratch race.
allpowers means all capacity machines

Hi Col l've got a question for ya? so if l enter a sidecar in pre75 it will $130 per person plus $20 for the bike, that's $280 for 3 race's is this correct?
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: EML on March 05, 2012, 09:22:34 am
To run 'up' a class make sure you have the correct number plate on.
I reckon all sidecars in Qld should enter regardless-the "fans" wont know any different-and only the wankers will protest after paying MA for that right-and we will put on some good racing and come home smiling.
After the two lap final 'debacale' of Connondale a couple of years back-it's all irrrelevant in any case.

Not to my knowledge.    There should have only been in there bikes capacity in the capacity class ( unless someone pulled a swifty and snuck a bike in on the line)
The only approved mix was in Age capacity where you could ride whatever bike capacity you liked or era prior bike ( like a pre70 etc).  Anyone who did in a capacity only class was not authorised to do so and should have been excluded at the line, i would assume this years CMX will follow that same ruling.

The only other mix was Evo which was any era bike that fitted the class ( ie from any period so long as it met the 3 rules) but they where still run in there capacity classifications.

What I find really silly is the "in-fighting" between groups of people who have the same interest at heart... " one group " puts on a better national champs than the other..!! what a load.... The Crystal Brook event is the best (solo and chair) nats that I have been to for about 15 years....get over your petty differences and embrace the fact that we all like to ride.... would make the events even better...and also forums like this less unsavoury..

my dear watto
its not infighting mate its just a gee up i wish we could get 50 pre 75 sidecars up here and i would be the first to pay my money to see it ,but we are coming from a sidecar point of view theres nothing better than seeing 15/20 sidecars in a race than 2 or 3 i know its a title and some people take it really serious but i ride a wasp outfit and would not have a clue on pre this and pre that i just want to go out and have fun.the amount of people that i speak to and tell them that i race sidecars can/t belive its possible or say they used to watch them when they were younger. all we are saying is to move our sport forward [sidecars ] we need numbers . ihope the nats are a great success and i will be there riding, watching or working. it does say on the first blog on here pre 85 sidecar support thats all we wanted..
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: EML on March 06, 2012, 01:36:47 pm
thanks Watto.
What i would like to say is we like to race.
When we can afford to we drive half way across Aus to do just that. When times are tougher, we stay home and race there.
We are very fortunate that Supersenior has put up his hand and we are having a great event back in Qld.
Being way past our best, we still like to put our bikes out there for others to see and admire and perhaps show them off to folk that haven't seen them for a while-if ever.
Sidecars have been part of the scrambles/motocross circus for ever-right back to the 40's and probably even before that.
We don't have a large fraternity of sidecar guys up here but we are growing at a fantastic rate from 3 in '09 to maybe 15 or 16 this year. All of these outfits are barn finds or rebuilds or a couple of new homebuilds and we are more inclined towards pre85 than the earlier class which are more prevailant in SA and WA and when the MA manual says frames are free but wheel travel and little else needs to be changed we get excited---because we get to race.
Then we are told that we must change things to the 'letter of the law', we consider it more important to get the guys out there on the track in numbers than to fiddle about over whether a brake master is round or square-3 old outfits raoming around a paddock are not quite the spectacle of 15 or 20 big twins throwing up some dust and clods.
THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE. Even you solo boys sittin' in the pits. I'll bet any money that if we had 20 big twins out on the track the fence would be packed!!

Yes I noticed this and thought that as I was using the same bike for 2 classes (pre 75 and pre 75 aged) that would only mean $20 but the online nomination charged $20 for each event?  Maybe that's right though?

Again Iunderstand it's all a bit new so happy to wait patiently for it to be sorted out so no pressure from me.  I'm just happy to get my entry in  :)

I'll put the refund towards a trophy for the best performance for a Yamaha as we discussed via PM's  ;D

nominate.com has a few teething problems but will be sorted.Ensure you keep your receipt as that serves as your gate pass.
If entering by surface mail, include a self addressed stamped envelope otherwise you'll not get final instructions and gate pass.
Also if you enter for a Pre75 age class, but do not wish to ride the open (all ages ) please signify on the entry

Popeye..the designation is now "a 1977 model" bike ...the old date of manufacture went out the window as was too onerous to admin... so if it is a 1977 model bike ...not a 1978 model bike made in 1977 ,then it is OK...

Just a quick jump from the "nice track" thread. Can we make the track 'look' vintage as well.
i.e. no tyres lying everywhere and maybe classic bunting flags like we used to have?
Just askin'.
Vaughan,
you supply the "Vintage" bunting and i'll personally whack it around your favourite bit of track.
it doesn't get any better than that now does it mate :D

Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: EML on March 31, 2012, 09:43:48 pm
That is exactly my point TMman
15 outfits of any classic age blasting around a natural terrain circuit "having fun" is far better the 2 or 3 roaming around a field chasing sheep stations  any day.
The problem with all this is that instead of having fun we now have to wear out the rule book to see if we are even eligible.

Perhaps all of these meetings should be 'display rides' only just to show off how things were visually and not competitively as that 'competition' can never be replicated anyway.

Get those entries in--we already have "championship" classes in Pre65 250cc, Pre75 250cc open, Pre75 250cc 50-59 yrs, and Pre78 250cc.
Only three Pre60 at this point. If you know someone with an eligable bike either get them to enter or steal it and ride it yourself.

Post by: supersenior 50 on April 14, 2012, 11:24:00 am
Re transponders.  If the same bike is used for more than one class, you only need and pay for one transponder.
If two riders share a bike ( different classes obviously ) you only need one transponder.
In both scenarios could you please make the situation clear on your entry

Less than a fortnight to go before entry fee goes up.
If you are holding off because of not being sure which bikes you'll have ready, enter your most likely scenario and we can sort it later.
One thing is certain though--there will be NO late entries.
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships

You should have my entry by Friday Col.

I hope everyone who's held back (like me) pulls their fingers out and gets their entries in ASAP. This is the first event evolving from the split that the majority of us wanted so we'd be letting sport down if we don't support it. Let's not forget that it's one of those rare and treasured occasions where we get to ride on a brand new virgin track. You'll be able to tell your grand kids that you rode the very first meeting at Wyaralong!

Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: supersenior 50 on April 20, 2012, 04:19:42 pm
Each age group in each capacity will get a result.Age groups may be combined on track but pointed separately.Where an age group has insufficient numbers to constituite a "championship" ages may be combined. However if for instance 30-39 had enough for a championship, but 16-29 not enough, they may be combined on track but 30-39 would be scored separately as a championship and 16-29 as a support.
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: supersenior 50 on April 21, 2012, 03:01:47 pm
Entries are rolling in nicely, but many have incorrect amounts and no return envelope.
Entry fee is $130.00 PLUS $20.00 per bike until end next week when entry fee goes up $150.00
The entry fee is just what it says. $20.00 per bike is just what it says.
If you enter tomorrow with three bikes ( regardless of classes ) it will cost you Entry $130 plus three times $20 (=$60 ) total $190.
If you dont include a stamped self addressed envelope it will cost you $25 to get in.

18.5.1.7 Exhaust may be modified but must follow the original lines and be fitted with an effective muffler.

I think the old rule said it "must generally following the original lines" which to my understanding leaves a bit more leeway in the line of the pipe.

Would pass nicely as a  Bassani copy.  Assume by the finish of it, its a circle f.

# Col, i forked up.  only just read this post.   :-[

Sent an entry in as discussed with Return envelope, but i see now i screwed up the money part.  I read it as $130 entry ( assumed as you always get a bike inc) and then $20 for every transponder needed after that.

I will fix that up when i know what bikes i get going, if thats ok. but will call you closer.  i just wanted to put an entry in, sorry probally should have rung to clarify.

Colin, been thinking about the fact we dont have pre 85 to pad out the change overs in pre78 now, so there will have to be a lot of back to back races ?  thinking that going tobe hard to manage specially for us interstaters up there on our own.  IS there going to be a Park femme at the start line/ finish so we can swap over on the line for th enext race if its a problem for us or will they hold the gate ?  what the contingency plan here as its got to be an issue based onthe number of bikes we carry and the fact there only pre 78 classes to split it up into.......   can you cover off how this might work ?  :-[

Entries now 100. Pre75 250cc Open very close to capacity, also Pre78 250cc, so get your skates on if you want to ride in those classes.
Entries are low in Sidecar, Pre60, Ladies, and the younger age groups.
All other classes have "Championship" status, some with big numbers (250cc 50-59 already has 24 entries)
If you have a wife, girlfriend, daughter, mistress or any lady who would like to ride just the Ladies class on a pre entered bike, we will consider waiving the entry fee. This means the only expense is the one event licence. It is a natural terrain track and anyone who can trail ride would enjoy it. All lady entrants will be presented with a commemorative trophy to celebrate the first time a dedicated ladies class has been included.

yes i have just sent a few an email and put your offer of free ride in there as a fly in option, i have said they can borrow my bikes if there in there own event.  well thats how i read it ? any pre 78 bike IIRC ?

If so ill keep pumping it.  ITS a long time off work for most so i understand them not making it for 1 ride, but the fly in option is great if there a bike up there.  I must thank Dave tanner again and Stew for helping me do that at last year DT nats. it made the choice to run so easy to swing.  I'm happy to PAY it forward.

I should have 4 mixed era bike and cc bikes in the van i can loan out, happy to Tow any more if peeps have a trailer they want collected on the way.  ITS a tought gig to get the girls all in the same place on the smae track, and MA are pushing it hard so its a must, so we should fill the space if we can.  Happy to help any ladies wanting a crack.  but you should know how to BASICALLY ride as the YZ360 will flip ya :D  Alison reckon can you handle it  ;)

Does anyone know of, has or can swing a pre 60 bike for the nats ?

i know its a big ask but the bike we were going to enter has some issues that cant be sorted in time.   PRe 65 would also be oK.  But IF you or a freind has a pre 60/65 bike you arent going to take can we please ride it at the nats ? ill pay the entry and the fuel no issue and happy to run it as a demo bike back of pack if you feel its not up to racing.    Can you contact me or put them in touch with me as i would like to make something happen ASAP so COl can sort the class out.  cheers

Come on guys, does anyone out there have pre60 bikes they haven't nominated yet.  This is the feature class for the Nationals, and we need only 3 more to make it a championship!  I'll be happy to dice for last place on my 2stroke Beast, if we get the necessary numbers.

I am riding 7 classes and lending my bikes to others for age races,  entries are paid and I'll be there so another ride or demo in the spirit off things would be  a good thing
The bikes must be out there some where??

Not sure about a bike and you'll have to check with the missus but I'm sure she's a post 60 model in any case.
Most blokes want to upgrade rather than retro fit them.

Whos Robin Groom ? your Tiler or your Courier freaky  ;D

" Who's Robin Groom?" Here's a bit of Nats history ......
Steve and Mike Groom were top Husqvarna riders from SA who competed all over Australia throughout the 1970's. Mike won the Australian 500cc title at Tivoli in 1970, and was runner up in the 250cc title at Clarendon in 1971. Robin's Dad Steve was also a top rider, and still plays high level rugby here in SA in his 60's! Those were the days Dave Basham dominated here in SA, but the Grooms, Jim Dowsett, Chris Hall ( Pirie 593 on here) Lester Rowley and many others gave him a tough time on many occasions.
Robin rode Uncle Mike's original 250cc Husky at Crystal Brook last year at the Nats, and won the 30 to 39 age title. He and Steve Melvin ( Alison's son) won a heat each of the pre 75 250, and were dicing it out for the title in the 3rd heat when Robin threw a chain on the final lap. Steve and Mike were both there to see him ride Mike's bike, and it was great to see them both after 25 years - although I still struggled to tell them apart or understand their accents.
Robin comes from a great scrambles/MX background.... grandfather Frank Franklin was the legendary track announcer in SA in the 70's and 80's, grandmother Jean Franklin was in charge of lap scoring, Mum Pam and Aunty Linda ( Harris) are both long serving officials at the Levis MCC in SA, Uncle Phil Franklin was Australian unlimited sidecar MX champion in 1980, Uncle Tony Cook was a top A grader in the 70's....and as Freaky said sister Shannon runs Revolution timing supplying all the transponders here in SA these days. That's all I know but there's probably much more.
It was great to see a 2nd generation rider competing on the same family bike with such a great history.

Robin is a very nice guy so say G'day to him at the Nat's! I'm sure he's going to try and repeat Uncle Mike's feat and win a National Title in Qld, 42 years later. ( Go the Croweaters!!!)

Robin rode when he was a kid but went onto Triatholons, i believe he was at  or near olympic sellection.  Then coming off the curve and training has moved back to SA and decided ( talked into by shannon to enter mike old Husky) and ride again for fun results as per above.  I think i kept up with him for a half a lap at the SA scrambles, but then was never seen again..... well be me anyway.   I think he is sending 2 bikes up to Qld this time and is a fly in due to work and family commitments.  The guy has a lot of endurance and will litterally grind you into the ground lap after lap.  be some good racing this year i reckon as there a few more in the mix now.

Still really sad to see tony cavell is hanging up the boots  the pre 75 250cc  with all the big guns, brad, herbert boys, tony C, robin G and so on would have been an awesome race to watch.

Visited the track complex today. Only took 30 mins from home and is about 50k so you could get accomodation in Ipswich and still travel easily, unlike the google maps which tells you its and hour.
The complex looks fantastic, much like Broadford and alot better than ACUSA IMO.
The circuit is marked on a reasonbale hillside and if you have extra HP best you bring it along in your kitbag as it will be needed-that and your best brakes(or biggest heart :D)
Vey nice lay-out, best I've seen in a while (very good supersenior and co.)
As for tyre choice (I knew you would ask) I have no idea(I'm a passenger and mine is always slick or ribbed :D :D :D)
We'll all have a great weekend for sure.

Jackie's list is just for you to check we've received your entry. The number is just a refrence number in our system (in order of receipt of entry) I'll post a draft programn on which you can check your numbers and classes. There are a lot of number duplications but I'll ask those to add a 1 or a letter, not change the whole number. I'll advise any such additions shortly.

here's the link Vaughan,
http://www.qldmotopark.com.au/
our camping/pit area will be full with competitors, so spectators wishing to camp will need to camp just outside our area more than likely at/around moto-park prices.

There will be camping for spectators and it is the same cost as everyone else. There is also a spectators fee of $5.00 per person per day.
In regards to the camping pit if you are not camping onsite you will be allocated a space which is in the camping pits to park your bikes. You will not be able to move your car in and out of the pits during the event as there is limited access for vehicles.

Walter if i was you i would get you bike scruitineered early as ya can then put up ya tent etc in the spot where you want to be for the duration.

Even if you stick up ya  flags and leave some milcrate or something up overnight.  As im led to belive you get a bay and that is your pit/ camping spot/  if its empty its open territiory !

there will be enought people staying there to watch ya stuff.

150 entries, three days to go. It will be necessary to combine with other riders in each pit space where possible, as space will be at a premium. A suggestion is to use the marked out space as your pit (together with other riders,) and camp in the "overflow area".Several advantages ( it's just as close to the action) and it will be quieter, you can come and go in the car, less dust etc. Those not camping MUST share with others in the pit area.

Wyaralong Park, between Beaudesert & Boona, 45min West of Gold Coast and the
              same South-west of Brisbane.

Im lookin at southport and surrounds map ~ is surfers paradise and goldcoast same thing/place ?
ps: yes we have gps  ;D

Surfers is the tourist trap within the Gold Coast area. Southport is a business/residential area 10 min North of Surfers (my factory is in Southport so you can tell it's upper class.)
To the East is beach, ocean and NZ, and to the West rainforest, mountains, hinterland, and Wyaralong and eventually Perth.

We have that area opposite as our "spill over" area and because of the higher entry than expected we are asking people to share the very generous 9 by 6 spaces in the pit, and camp on the other side.As you know, it has advantages in shade trees, less noise and dust etc.We don't want race bikes in the "spill over" area during racing for obvious reasons.

took a visit out to the track today to see how things are coming along.
there's still work taking place as can be seen but we're assured all will be good for our event.
here's the view from the start line. a good eye will see the freestyle ramps in the distance.
so if you overshoot turn 1.
get ready to flip ;D
(http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a438/vandy010/ozvmx%20stuff/Picture005.jpg)
one of the uphill runs.
this one should be super fun for the horsepower freaks ;)
the view from the top of the hill should give some idea of the elevation changes the track will feature.
in this pic, the startline begins roughly from where you see the white huts/behind the tree and goes from left of screen to right.
in all, it all seems to be moving along quite well and is shaping up to be an event not to be missed.
Enjoy! :)

Throttle Grip clothing have designed some excellent Tees/long sleeve/ladies shirts for the Nationals event, here is a short message from the crew at TG.

Hi all

Just a quick update, thanks to everyone who pre-ordered shirts. They will be available for pick up from the Throttle Grip stall unless other arrangements have been made. Ladies, I even managed to get a few pink shirts done up, so come check em out!

Very excited to announce that as well as event shirts, Throttle Grip will also have Sideburn magazines and gear in case you need some bedtime reading material.

See ya trackside!

On Sunday evening the trophies and participation prizes will be awarded.
There will also be a sit down meal in the marque which is being provided by the Lyons club at a cost of 25.00 per head. It will be a chance to catch with fellow riders and officials and do what we all enjoy doing, talk bike crap.
A band will be providing entertainment during this time and the Bar of course will be open.
The Bar opens at 2.00pm to non competitive patrons and riders can drink in moderation at race day end. Anyone wear riding gear will not be served until after 5.00pm.
Please contact me if you will be attending the presentation meal, reply here on this post or email or text message so we can cater for numbers. No details required just how many in your party will be attending.

What's the simplest travel route from Brisbane to the Moto Park?

What's the simplest travel route from Brisbane to the Moto Park?
for you Mike,
head to Peak Crossing as if your on your way to Harrisville.
don't turn off to Harrisville at Peak Crossing,
instead, go straight ahead for about 20 minutes or so,
you'll enter the locality of Coulson which is sign posted,
and there you'll turn left toward Beaudesert,
the road will cross small bridge with concrete roadway and Qld Moto Park is only about 2klm from that last turn and is sign posted.
basically,
add another leisurely 25minutes from Harrisvile time.

What is the road called where the track  is ? The Navman wants to know . Or any road in Town  will do . As long as we get to Whyaralong. Just doing final loading now . Thanks
Goan road is the name of the entrance road into Qld Moto park but it doesn't show up on Google, so it may not show up on your navman.
its off Beaudesert-Boonah road and Qld Moto Park has a sign at the intersection.

sign posted from Boonah right vandy !!
if you whack "wyaralong queensland" into google maps,
you'll see Beaudesert-Boonah Rd (#90).
if your coming from Boonah Freaky, you'll see on google the road (#90) turns right at Coulson.
Take it.
it's about 2klms or less further on and THEN you'll see the Qld Moto Park sign where you'll turn right into good old "Goan Rd"

Ok vmxer's to make things run smoothly and ensure you get on that track, please try and get your sign on and scrutineering done on the Friday when we have 5 hours to do it, remember on Saturday there will only be one hour no more no less, and there will be no holding up the programme, so if your late please do not blame us if you miss out, this is your responsibility.
To all the interstate riders have a safe journey, and we will see you there ;)
Please note there are no ATMs on site

According to the bureau of maybe-ology, it might be a bit wet  :(  However the upside is that if it's a bit wet, the cloud cover usually means it isn't as bloody cold  :)

Great days racing at the Pre 78 Championships, could not want better weather, or a better venue.  40 strong gates made for brilliant racing. Unfortunately Qld’er Mitch Semmens badly broke his arm and it ended his day. Brad Van Barello just about won every race he was in, absolutely dominated and does not look like slowing down as the track cuts up with use.

I have uploaded a few photos, not too good but better than nothing.  Spectator viewing was quite a distance from the track so it made getting really good shots hard unless you had a big lens. Going again tomorrow, hoping the weather holds out as another top day is on the offering.  Every one I spoke to were happy with the track, hopefully we will get to use it again after the Nats,

Looks fantastic. The organisers/volunteers deserve a big pat on the back and a few free beers. Bloody hell that is great advertisement for VMX, a full field , everyone and the track well presented and spectators/marquees in the background.Top stuff.

So much for all the doom, gloom, and misery about The Split. Hats off to Col and his team, well done all.  ;D

And yet another kick in the shins to the Negative Nevilles who keep telling us that pre 75/pre 78 is dead and buried. I think there's a few more years left in the old division yet thanks to Col Metcher, Vandy, DT and the Brisbane club and all of the other true believers. ;D

Just got back from Day two... weather held off all day. No photos from me today unfortunately. Every body in good spirits and happy.. :)

Seemed to be plenty of photographers around including Ken so there should be many more photos to see.
Also noticed quite a few GoPros, so hopefully someone will post some track video. I think that you all will be impressed with the facility and the track if you get the chance to see it.

Next mission: to get the numbers for the Pre90 Champs in Tassie!!

Not many tracks in the world could boast being "friendly" for all classes raced on one weekend but this one can. I raced a pre60 solo and an outfit -so that's about both ends of the scale!! and it had it all. The surface is the best I have raced on anywhere and it held together very well for the beating it got over the weekend. The mix over rolling terrain combined with clever use of that terrain to make cambered turns and then some steep climbs and not too scaring downhills mixed with enough neg camber stuff to make the quick guys have a second think- all fantastic stuff.
The club and their helpers ran it like a clock with no complaints from either side-riders or organisers. Just sorry I couldn't wait in the cold for the presentations, the old bones were seizing up.
Might be a good spot for next years pre85 Nats...........

Met a few new faces and caught up with some old ones, well worth the trip

I thought that was one of the benefits of splitting the nats? The bikes with 4"s or less of suspension could ride on a track without the killer jumps.

The post 78 nats should be able to be held on any motocross track in Australia..... :)

Hi,
A very big thanks to all those who gave their time to put this great event on , to all the ladies, who are always there, to make it  happen, to all the Officials who made it all work , and those who could have ridden but gave up their ride to be marshalls, starters, crowd controls, flaggies and assistants and helpers,
Especially to Col Metcher, a big  job , well done .

This was my fourth nats and the best by far. Thanks to all involved for an unforgetable weekend. Putting faces to forum members also a highlight.

8mins plus one lap races meant lots of time on this awsome track to enjoy. Start gate positions also very even what eva peg you drew.
Plenty of places to pass making for great racing also.

No one is a stranger in the paddock even if you have never meet before. This alone makes it the best sport in the world.

Thanks again everyone for an unforgetable weekend, hope to see you all again in Canberra next year.

Cheers Troy

PS condolances Dave for the AJS

Freaky hope you can walk this morning.

struggling today, stiff as a board, got back in early Am last night after a 19 hour straight run solo, by the end the rabbits were looking like kangas...  ( think ill sneak off from work this arvo now i been seen at my desk  ;))

Ali -  the 3rd palce gong make's it all worth while, meaning the old bones and aches can go get stuffed :)  it was totally worth it. Pain subsides, trophies go straight to the pool room  :D

Credit to this Guy, after a lot of huffing and puffing and chucking his lolly around for 30 mins, because unfortuanly he missed the section in the rules about manditory Folding pegs, he went on a mission and not only cut the old treaded bar off, but found and made new mounts and brackets to take folding pegs.  I think in the end his results made all his efforts worth while.

well done to him for getting through that stumbling block and getting a great result on the track in return.

Did 090 get the ironman award, he must have rode every class on the weekend excluding the ladies. Surprised he didnt ride home Sunday night, must have run outta fuel. Well done Brad, great effort both riding and bike preparation/presentation.lots of long hours gone in there. Cant wait to see the rematch at Mr VMX later on in the year 8)

I owe a big thank you to Ash and Jack of "Ash's Spoked Wheels" for selecting me and regret not thanking them at the presentation on Saturday arvo

The ride of my short solo carear
Not so much a heart clench but the little bugger had a piston clench almost every lap until I wised up and just poked along-then it would only lock up now and again :D
Ronny was so pleased to have it out on the track as was not too happy to give the trophy back, but he's a great sport and it's now on my kitchen table awaiting further instructions.
We might enter them-the Bantams- in the mini bike challenge at the Conondale Classic for a laugh.

I'm sure you will eventually get instructions as to where to send that lovely trophy, EML.  I'd be happy to send the 2nd place one to you, but I couldn't stay for the presentation, so I don't know who has it.  At least you have something to look at in the meantime.
Gotta keep those old things going, maybe the sight of them last weekend will inspire more to appear, if only at demonstration pace.

Mike1948, if you are the tribsa man, you should have won on preparation alone-yours looked a treat, mine was just in for a laugh and to make up the numbers so we all got a race.
However, I know of a Red Hunter in a shed that will become a project and from what I have seen of the pre68 outfit class, will knock on the door at the next Nats :D

No such luck, EML, the Tribsa is a class machine, but not mine.  My ride is the HJH - first time out, fun to ride.  All I need is a smaller tank, to play around with the gearing a bit, and put the rear brake lever back the way it used to be.
Bring on the pre60s!
Mike
Title: Re: 2012 Classic MX Championships
Post by: EML on June 16, 2012, 08:39:19 am
Sorry Mike-of course yours is the HJH. From what's being said they might have to split pre60 into classes or give them a handicap, we already have ours :D :D :D :D
The main point of having a go on the Bantam was to see pretty much what it would have been like to be a schoolboy racer in the early 60's as I figured that's what they would have ridden, not some flash Metisse or even a Maico or Montessa but rather what was in the shed, dads old bike he rode to work or something like that.
Anyways it was a hoot.

Thanks Mark. I bought the bike ( a 440) from Doug ( flyingdg ) and it is a well sorted machine and pretty to boot. Plenty of hand made alloy parts such as tank, airbox, side plates, rear brake pedal and head stay. Brakes are deadly and the clutch rivals a new bike. If you ever get the chance to deal with Doug don't hesitate. You won't find a more helpful, honest guy.

I tried to race the phantom but it threw the chain twice on my and it had a fuel blockage in the first of the races so I gave up on it. I shared it with a friend and he sorted it and raced it all weekend. He tried to buy it off me all weekend.  ;D it's the only bike that was finished too close to the meeting to sort the bugs out. Looking forward to riding it again. False neutrals are the only negative but I think it's a matter of getting used to it.

There's nothing as lethal as a well set up 440 Maico. If you've got the clutch set up properly and the crank balanced to lessen the notorious 440 vibration it's just up to how good a rider you are. There aren't too many that'll beat you to the first corner......as the photos clearly show ;D.

??? ??? ??? Am I missing something here? I can't see any reference to the Nats or motorcycles at all.

All i can see is some clips of kids video games  ??? ???

Now that we have the correct link the vid's a ripper. I laughed along with Roger with your wobbly first lap but before long found myself sticking my foot out for corners and moving around on the seat. Good stuff.

I went down for a look (at my first vmx event) on the Saturday and was impressed with the layout of the track and the quality of the bikes.  Took a few random photos and talked to a few people, although the only person I knew who they were was Walter, he even conned me into giving him a push start ;)

I was wondering what would be a good way of working out who people are for those of us who don't know anyone on the here personally.  Maybe put your username on your shade tent?

Anyhow, I enjoyed my first look at a classic vmx event, although I doubt I'll get a pre 78 bike, I've never even ridden a pre 78 bike (my first bike was a 81 model when I was 12), the event looked like it was well run and I enjoyed watching  :D

Don't let that stop you. My first bike was a '79 gt80. I didn't know three quarters of the bikes even existed. Earliest model bike I now have is pre 65.
IMO another mistake guys make us to stick with one brand because that's all they know. I started like that with Hondas but now I have seven different makes in my shed if I count my Puch mini bike and '98 yz/Wr 250.

Had to sacrifice a few number 1's myself that day making a few "X"s but,as history shows, it didn't help my cause.  I did make some for a fellow competitor though and it helped him so it wasn't the X's that let me down  :)

Good thing is I can sit home looking for new bikes to buy.
One of the guys at my club just bought 2 74 CR's. I thought of you as soon as he told me.
Come over to Kapunda for Aussie off road enduro series on 25 & 26 this month. I'll chauffer you around in my Polaris atv they've given to me to promote.

Speaking of photos, did anyone accidently take any photos of my old HJH at the Nats?  The only "Action?" shot I have has the front wheel missing, and I'd like a copy to look at when I'm older & greyer.

Every time I saw it, it was flying past me-several times per lap if I recall correctly :D :D :D :D
There is only so far a Villiers goes before it nips up it seems and when ever mine did-yours seemed to go by.
I check to see if someone has a shot for you.

Yes I got a couple of copies from there, but the best shot cut off half my front wheel - maybe the old beast was going too fast for the camera to keep up.  HO HO!
