Anyone knows ??
As far as I know it was the number allocated to him when he first went into MotoGP. I don't think it has any particular significance.

Casey has been using #27 since he first raced 125 GP's in 2002. Maybe it was his number in Dirt Track?
-
I seem to remember it was something to do with having the same manager as Danni Pedrosa when he started out, there was a third rider with his number in the sequence as well.
I stand to be corrected though

Casey,s early DT number was I think 166

possibly when mick doohan started in gps in 89 he had 27 as he was caseys idol perhaps that is why he chose that number
-
…or maybe both Doohan and Stoner were Alan Jones fans? ;)

I always had #11 in karting which was great and being a tightarse i only had to keep spare #1 stickers :D
That changed when i did a CIK meeting in Geelong and an arsehole from NSW had #11 in my class as well and wouldn't
change it even though the hosting state driver (me)had the priviledge of using their registered number.
So i had to go buy 3 x #7 stickers because i couldn't be bothered argueing with the idiot.
He lovetapped me on the straight and my front wheel ripped his numbers on his side pod and you have to display your numbers
in all the races,so before the next race i could hear him asking around for #1 stickers as the parts van had run out of stickers.
As he came closer he was still asking the question and i yelled out "yeah, here are 2 #1's for ya!" and gave him 2 birdies ;D ;D ;D ;D
Anyways....i think Stoner did mention years ago about Doohan having the number etc etc like gra1961 said

I think you will find the number was run in the Spanish 125 championship, note that Dani is 26, Tony Elias is 24 and both did that championship at the same time as Casey. Seems to work fine for him.
