Title: Sealing Exhaust Flange's
Post by: huskibul on September 18, 2011, 11:28:34 am
What's the general consensus on using heatproof silicone in exhaust flange's on older two bangers-good or bad ? someone said you'll never tune them properly without it , is there any chance of it getting back into combustion chamber if it come's loose -  or other problems ? cheers

I've been using some of that on my CZ as a lot of people recommend, let it sit for a couple of hours to get a good skin on the bead before you fit it to in effect make a o-ring type seal

I use that tape style muffler bandage. I wrap it around the end of the pipe that slips into the header flange making for a nice tight fit. I've been using it for over 30 years with no failures that I can think of.

Copper silcone works a treat and what damage could it do if it did ever go into the combustion chamber? Tony's skin trick is great aswell as giving it 24h to cure
