You should have dragged old Bob Vourmard out of retirement Geoff. He wouldn't have been satisfied until he jumped a foot further than you, even if he face planted trying ::)! Did he come out for a look over the weekend?

that will be Dt on the AJ before you know it

Didn't see him Firko but i reckon he wouldn't have missed this event for anything. We spoke about a week beforehand and chewed over a few old times etc and i thought wow where have the last 20 yrs gone. ??? There's no doubting he would have Mark, his racers brain would have took over!

Didnt his kid or family member enter im sur ei saw that last name in the rider list ?

how clean is the up ramp, very nice,,,, why are our tracks not like this 8).........

Bob never showed up but his lad Rohan came for a look on the Sat. We also used Rohans's 74 CZ 400 at local show to promote the Titles.

For those who don't know him, Bob Vourmard from Port Pirie was one of the real characters of the first 10 years of VMX. He was blindingly fast on a string of CZ's and a Weslake Metisse, and extremely competitive to the point that he would take you out at the drop of a hat if you happened to be between him and a race win. Bob was a true wild man on the track and a bizarre and colourful character off the track. He was the 1969 Australian 250 Motocross Champion on a Yamaha DT1 and won many titles during his VMX career. As high maintenance as Bob was he was sadly missed from the sport when he gave it away.
Bob wasn't the only character from South Australia, there was another fast racer named Fred Richards who rode some very fast MX250/360 Yamahas. He also won a lot of titles and was more times than not the last man standing at the post race piss up along with his trusty offsider, a bloke known only as 'Clarkie'. Does anyone know whatever happend to 'Fast Freddie' Richards?

Another guy from that era was Cactus Martins...he showed his face at the Nats..........same sort of race period as Geoff / Fred / Bob...

I forgot Cactus ::). When you factor in the comparitively smallish vintage racing population in South Australia, they've certainly contributed well over their quota of eccentrics and party animals!

Fred Richards came up to me and had a chat at CB--great to see him again

I'm glad Fred's still around. I recall hearing that his mate Clarkie passed away a few years ago which must have been hard on Fred as the pair seemed inseperable. Clarkie and Fred really knew the ins and outs on pre '75 Yamahas and it was Clarkie who solved a problem I'd been having with my Yamaha clutches by telling me to simply add an extra steel plate, something I still do to most of my Yammies to this day ;).
I'm even sorrier I missed Crystal Brook now :'(.
