Title: RM125B fork boots
Post by: suzuki27 on September 14, 2011, 06:06:42 pm
I just got some NOS fork boots for a 125B, but they are blue. More the darker blue than the 84 model blue. I thought they were black! They are meant to be black aren't they?

Mad a couple of calls and sure enough Suzuki have superceded them to the new blue. Blue is NOT the new Black!

That sucks, I'd be looking for a refund on the grounds of the part is not suitable for the model specified. There are plenty of aftermarket boots on offer but it is hard to match the 16 ribs the OEM items have, most have 18-20 and/or of larger diameter which are just fine for most but if you want the original look they just don't sit right.

In about 1979 I bought a pair from a RM , I think 400....put them on my Husky to try and stop the dirt getting in and making the seals leak.....Didn't work...should still have them lying around somewhere...they had the little brass "breathers" at the bottom as well... only used for a couple fo club runs before I took them off again...

Yeah you are one of the many caught out by that. You need to do your research or ask the dealer when ordering if they have been superceded which they have been in this case. At some point suzukis changed from black to blue  and the mid 80's DR250 and DR200 have the same shape/size boots as the earlier RM/PE and all they did was change the colour to blue. Suzuki says these are the same boot, just different colour and they still fit, so the older RM/PE numbers are changed to the later blue fork boots and this is what is on the world wide data bases. I guess there theory is blue boots are better than no boots. When you ring the dealer and ask for fork boots for 77 RM250, they will look up the part number, and it will update to a newer one and then it will say 'available' or 'not available' or something like that. The key is to actually ask them is the part superceded and in  the case of colour specific parts, make sure you are clued up on suzukis colour codes before they order you in a part that is not really the colour you wanted.

Yeah Cemoto or Daystar are the closest ones you will get in aftermarket ones that look right on the older bikes that are teh right diameter and have a lower amount of ribs.

For Daystar you would want series 58 or maybe 70 and in Cemote you would probably want 2321 or 2322 depending on model/travel etc. There are a couple others too.
Check out the Daystar website and Cemoto website for more details/options. Australian wholesaler for Cemoto is Pro Accessories and they sell the Cemoto boots and you can check their site too.

Suzuki27 i looked for ages for genuine boots and they occasionally come up on ebay US....i ended up with these Honda boots and drilled the breather holes in the bottom.
They have 1 or 2 less ribs but i didn't give a rats  after looking for ages.
They came from a thailand or singapore ebay site for about 20 or 30 bucks landed.

Thanks Monaro. What craps me off is I have had several pair of the right ones ( 2nd hand) go through my hands and not thinking they would be so hard to get down the track.
