Title: Big boys and 125's
Post by: jack82 on September 09, 2011, 09:47:48 am

A mate has offered me a 1980 RM125 basket case for a very cheap price. I'm tempted to buy it and do it up.

Have never owned a 125 and don't ever recall even riding one...... ???

I weigh 100kg and I'm wondering If I'd kill the poor little thing trying to race it. Is there any fun to be had on these little tiddlers for a bloke my size??

If you are prepared to change your riding style, then you will love it. The blokes who try to ride them like a 500 never see the appeal, though.

At the very pointy end, rider weight might make a difference, but for most of us, race results will come down to skill.

I'm 90 to 95kgs, FWIW.

Don't slow down for corners helps you have to take different lines to a 250 and revs the tits of them. I like riding all size bikes as you pick up stuff that you normally miss each has advantage in some way.

Dunno. I've said it before but the most fun I've had on a bike was on a 125 but I was about 78 Kgs at the time. A bit big for a 125 on an mx track but fine in enduros.

Ride it like you stole it. I was up until recently 95kg. At the end of the day the majority of guys you are racing are old and fat  ;D

Im with Brad, ride it like you stoll it and you will love it, l ride a 250 at the moment but in the old day's only ever rode 125 and 500, 125 dont wear you out like the other two and the 500 you could get lazy on, l never realy liked the 250, go figure........

Yeah, I have lost some weight actually: Saw myself in the mirror and thought "Sheet - you're starting to look like Bill", which was plenty of motivation.
