Looks nice Davy, is that one of the old chambered SuperTrapps or just the 4" straight core model? Real clean build..

hi swiss... straight core with spacers between the disks
-
Very nice looking.
What's the weight?
-
Sweet bike Davy. As a fan of craftsman built frames, I'm in awe of Jeff Coles work. Of all of the American frame builders he's the one that displayed to the Brits that there were innovators besides home grown Eric Cheney, the Rickmans and Brian Curtis.
-
JC... it weighs 230 pounds using the bathroom scale method, i'll get some more weight off it by changing the xl cush drive rear wheel for something lighter, alloy kickstart, and remove every 2nd fin from barrel/ head and either find a TL 250 flywheel or get mine lightened.
cheers Firko...the workmanship on the frame is excellent ..and handles really well, turns reallly well..
-
Earlier today I checked out Jonesy's under construction C&J B50 which is a very early 7" and 4" conventional pre '75 frame. The difference in weight between it, Alans stock B50 is quite noticable and tomorrow we hope to weigh the C&J, stock '74 B50 and Alans '74 CCM.....my money's on the C&J to be even lighter than the CCM. I think that one of the prettiest motocross bikes ever built is the C&J XR500 like the below jewell.

I would say you would be correct firko as the early C & J are a lot lighter, my 72 sideport frame is a full 2kg lighter. Davey the TL250 is lightest then the XL250 the bike below has a TL250 flywheel my centreport has a Bill Bell engine so it has one of his flywheels on it.

sudman..my motor is only 298cc ,nrb cam, carb, valves,ti retainers, porting and combustion chamber altered ...and about 12:1 comp..
but it goes very well ,would like to try a tl flywheel .

How hard these C&J frames to find?
Bruised :P
-
It took me two years to find the 1st one & then the 2nd one popped up 6 months later(both imported from the US), I have not seen another for sometime now but to fair I have not been looking. The guy I got my centreport from has another one or two bikes he would sell but that was two years ago now.

Ask Jeff Cole to build you one. He restarted a small series for the XR500 motor last year (I bought 4 of them). May be he also does the 300.

58 bhp is very precise and very high for a pre RFVC 500. Interesting. Was this measured on a dynamometer?
Some claim to be able to get even more but it is all top end power only good for flat track.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Rod Spry or someone close to his circle is reproducing C&J frames in the UK. Perhaps one of our Pom mates can enlarge....
-
Rod Spry sells. The guy from Hectors Racing fabricates.
Now, is a C&J not built by a C&J guy actually a C&J...? Opinions will no doubt vary... :)

Hectors, now I remember! I wonder how the quality compares to an original Jeff Cole frame?

58 HP ...38 mikuni , megacycle cam, digitial ignition with adjustable cdi up to to 12k,wiseco 12:1 540cc piston, crank lightened and balanced with carillo rod and honda crf 450 big end, balancer shaft removed, ported and valve job on new standard valves...you can get more but the valve seats start to turn in the head !!!..the power is bang on VERY responsive and pulls from nothing right thru the rev range and sounds the dogs bollocks.

Colins (Hectors) work is of VERY high quality, cromo with stunning TIG welds.
-
The ignition may be fine to 12k rpms but I can't imagine an RFVC engine living long at those rpms. Rob Muzzy made good hp from them but most other tuners didn't make big numbers.
Swiss

I think we are talking about the NON RFVC motor here.
In any case, with great power comes great breakage ... :)
