Jee , I have one of them (with ADR plate), I swaped it for a pair of shocks and spent a little money on it. The kids ride it every day on our home track and have a ball on it . I use it to go to the letter box every morning.
Now I have to rethink , I better put it on Ebay and buy a chinese pitbike and invest the rest . LOL

I know of a TZ700 Yamaha GP bike still in the packing crate here in Sydney. It's never been out of the box or assembled. If these little pea shooters can sit on 46k and still be under reserve, what's the TZ worth?

Last time I heard of a TZ700 in as new condition it went for around 100,000 US to a Japanese collector and I think that was in the mid 90's

Upto 55k already for pair of fatwheel mini's. Gee's whats a real MX'er from 1970s be worth still in its crate. ??? The mind boggles.
-
Would anyone know if those couple of Pursangs that were still in their crates went and for how much? They were for sale in VMX a few issues back by a guy that was featured in the issue with a heap of Huskies, Suzukis and stuff....

Terry Good at MXWORKSBikes recently sold a NOS Yamaha YZ360B - it went for a more realistic price of $13,100USD!

My mate McCook in Pensylvania has a new, unridden '72 AJS Stormer. It's out of the crate but he kept it just in case the bike needs to go back in. I don't know how much he paid for it but I'm sure it's not in fantasyland like these ZR50s. Back in the early days of vintage a couple of NOS '73 Elsinore 250s came up on the market. They were quickly snapped up and one went back to Japan and the other bagan its racing career (albeit 20 years too late) and is still occasionally racing today. Maybe the owner should have kept it in new condition and cashed in on the big bucks but he's happy and has had a trouble free twenty years of racing the old girl.

Firko.
What do you think a similar bike on todays market should sell for. Not so much the highly sort after 73/4 Elsinore but lets say something a little less desirable like a 1975 250m Elsinore in the original crate.

It's times like this I'm reminded some people have too much money.
I've just had a look to see 42 people have bidded and it's currently over $59K!!! for two minibikes!!!
It's a bit like artwork - the value/cost has reached ludicrous heights. :o
-
i agree wombat, frenzied bidding aplenty.
so what do you do with a pair of $89k minibikes , for forks sake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
($89k reserve price, did not sell as highest bid a stupid $59)
-
$89K reserve???!!! Two people with that sort of money to waste would be Donald Trump and Paris Hilton...
-
you're just not moving in the right circles...
There are hotel rooms in the Crown Casino for a paltry $27k per night.
Not your Ferrari Enzo at the door, I take it? ;D

I need a Honda freak to explain this one to me. Not the price, cos I know now there are people with plenty of money to throw at the weirdest things. But why are 1986 Z50s the Holy Grail of Honda Z50s? I mean, to me a Z50 is a bit of a curiosity, that's about it. Yeah I'd buy a second hand one for the kids if I was in the market, but I doubt I'd ever have bought one new cos I couldn't bring myself to spend a couple of grand on a fat tyred minibike.
So, WTF?

This one is down to just plain old speculation. The guy is having a lend of everyone by asking that kind of money. I don't like him or what he's about. Just read into the self important arrogance in his post. It's not as if he's selling a one off Ming dynasty incense burner from the fifteenth century, it's a pair of mini bikes for fork sake. Nothing more, nothing less. As a child of the fifties I missed the minibike era and because of that just don't understand what people see in them. I do know enough however to know that the Honda ZR50 is nothing special in the whole scheme of things. I reckon they're worth less than 10% of his top bid. I know that the value of a bike is determined by what someone is prepared to pay for it but this is just plain old greed in this particular vendors case.

i once owned an imaculate 1980 XR 80 that i sold for $600 about 10 or 12 yrs ago and i had been tracking it from one new onwner to the next and it was always being passed on for about the same amount. it would of been good to hang onto it and see what it would go for now theres the VMX craze and there are people collecting those mini bikes. mine was all original but had been restored completely so it was like a brand new bike.
-
You could buy a genuine RN or RH or RC or OW or SR for less but....not everyone owned one of these and not everyone has fond memories..on the other hand the little Z50 were owned by zillions worldwide hence there will naturally be far more interest from a far broader range of potential buyers. One can't use this sale to gauge other vintage bike prices as very few other vintage bikes were as popular as the Z50. Personally I never owned 1 and never wished to..until now :D

ONE OF MY MATES THAT WORKS FOR A HONDA SHOP AND IS A COLLECTER OF Z50's TOLD ME THAT THE 1986 CHROME Z50RDG's WERE A LIMITED EDITION JAP MODEL MODEL ONLY, THEY ARE COLLECTABLE BUT NOT AT THAT PRICE, HE SAID YOU COULD GO AND BUY A S/H STANDARD 86 Z50 AND BUY A NEW TANK AND GUARDS (STILL AVALIBLE) FROM HONDA AND HAVE THE TANK, FRAME, ETC RE CHROMED AND END UP WITH THE SAME BIKE ??? ??? ???, I HAD BETTER GO AND BUY UP ALL THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY MODEL Z50 THAT HONDA BROUGHT INTO OZ LAST YEAR, THEY MAY BE WORTH HUGE $$ IN 20 YRS FROM NOW.
