Title: Front Forks

Hi all, I have a set of front forks that I want to put on e bay that came with my 1969 Husky 400 and obviously are not original  .They are 35mm and have tapered ends and where the bottom of the triple clamps mount it is knurled. Could anyone let me know what year they are from .

I would say Betors off a Bultaco.  Not sure what year or model.  How travel do they have?

   They look like the 72-73' mk5 pursang (tapered tops) not sure if mk4's were the same :)

Montesa had that simble on there forks. The knurling could have been done after manufacturer.

That looks like the Bultaco 'Thumbs Up' logo to me.

I've always thought Montesa had their own logo cast into the Betor legs Mick.

Definately Bultaco (Betor).These were used on the Pursang Mk1 to Mk5,Montadero/Bandito and even the Astro. They have about six and a half inches travel and a 15mm axle.
The bottoms were used on later models (Frontera's) with parallel tops on the legs and the knurling in a different position.
 They are legal for any pre 70 bike.

Can someone tell me how much fluid you put in these or distance from top of fork.Also is ATF the go? ???

These forks generally work better with thicker oils.Usually straight 20W or even 30W. trans fluid is about a 10W.Aprox 150 - 200cc per leg depending on the length of them.

Do yourself a big favour and put YSS PD valves in them the difference is like cheese and chalf. Les at VMX Unlimited did the machining on my VR250 Monty forks (betors) to maximise the benifit and then I added some new correct weight fork spings and it is just great 8). Cheapest performance increase you will get that works on every track ;)

10wt oil 125mm from top with forks compressed and springs out. Standard PD Valve setting seems spot on for this bike. I have fitted these emulator valves to all my Monty's. Sorry Walter one has Gold Valves :-[

OK can't do the emulator thing yet.Put in a set of NOS springs from SW,seem a bit heavy.start out with 150ml ATF then 160ml.It feels pretty good,but the action is a bit klunky,works pretty well around the paddock but getting sprayed with a lot of ATF.Should I try the 20w or 30w next?damping seems about right.Is the klunkiness a betor thing?

ATF is too light, use proper 10 or 15wt FORK oil - much better feel.
