Title: Adhesive Removal
Post by: Tahitian_Red on August 23, 2011, 04:11:28 pm
I pealed some repro Yamaha stickers off my YZ400D, because they just didn't fit right.  Now I'm left with some pretty sticky goop on my tank.  What do you guys use to remove old adhesive from tanks and other plastics?

Wax and grease remover works well.  Just try it on an inconspicuous part first.  Shouldn't bother paint or plastic, but you can't be too careful.  Just put a bit on a rag, don't drown the thing in it  ;D

WD spray also works most times unless it was some special impervious to near everything adhesive.

I always use Tar and Glue Remover http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Wax-Shop-Tar-and-Glue-Adhesive-Remover-Paint-Prep-/330417586554?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cee6c417a

Does what it says on the tin and you won't damage paint or plastics scraping the glue off with your credit card  ;D

I use this which works well

You can also get it in handyman cans for a once off job if you dont think you will need a big tin of it

If you use Eucalyptus Oil you dont have to wipe it off, leave it out under the gum tree and the Koala,s will lick it off
saving on elbow grease.

I have always used 3M Adhesive Cleaner. http://www.ssrfanatic.com/forum/attachments/f5/41229d1195963300-adhesive-removal-3m-general-purpose-adhesive-cleaner.jpg (http://www.ssrfanatic.com/forum/attachments/f5/41229d1195963300-adhesive-removal-3m-general-purpose-adhesive-cleaner.jpg)

Works very well and does not harm plastics.

Also comes in a tin.

Highly recommended. We use it in the Air Force on our Aircraft too.   :)
