FMF and DG were pioneers, but I think T&M (Danny Turner), Moto-X Fox (Richter,Wise and Barnett) and LOP (Marty Moates) struck fear in the hearts of the factory teams.
I raced my Fox replica '79 CR250 at Honey Lake one year and Larry Wosick came over to look at my bike. He said when he raced his Honda CR250 Moto-X Fox bike, in the 1979 Nationals, it was so cool because the factory riders would come to his pit and check out his bike!
;D

Speaking of Honda hop up shops, has Mugen been missed off the list.
-
Dont know if Mugen qualifies ??? if so then should Nogouchi be added ;)
But for me i cant call between DG and Fox ;D as a junior racer DG was the ducks nuts 8) then a bit later Fox was soooooo cool :)

I think the Mugen 360 was the ultimate Japanese hop up ..... add Fox suspension and swingarm and you have just about replaced the whole bike.... which should be the ultimate aim of any good after market accessory adict.

my vote is fmf
as a hop up shop did a lot of factory bikes
and are still going not like the others ;)

I'm going with Moto-X Fox..
The '77 Mugen kitted, Fox suspended CR125 of Steve Wise and the '77 water cooled, Fox suspended RM125 of Pat Richter were so cool and trick and capable of beating the factory works bikes of the day.

What about White Brothers? You left them out.

I'm with the big "O".

I like T&M Engineering. Not simply because of the T&M head on my RM125S engine being my entire bling inventory but also because I like orange bikes ;D Ron Turner and Bruce McDougal had the factory CR125's and I even like them!! Not because they were Honda, because they were orange! ;D

As uber cool and iconic as the full-on Fox bikes were/are, I reckon FMF and DG are better fitting the description as a 'Hop-Up Shop'. FMF and DG seemed to be more about tuning/development and using whatever parts worked rather than pushing a particular product line.
Not to say that they didn't have there own product lines, nor that Fox weren't into the tuning side of things, just that they went about things in different ways given that their heydays were in slightly different eras and things were changing fast back then.

KSI did good gear.

And let's not forget Wheelsmith Engineering. If you didn't have at least one Wheelsmith gizmo on your Maico in the 70's you were very, very uncool.
