Title: Pre '78 racers head to head
Post by: JohnnyO on August 13, 2011, 02:00:41 pm
I plan to ride both these at the next meeting and see which one comes out on top... ;)

The RM will perform, but the HD would make good eye candy for my living room...
Cheers

I'm really interested to hear how the Harley runs on the track.  Hopefully it will see a good mix of pre-78 machinery on the gate.
 :)

I'm keen to see how your going to do this  ;D
My gut feeling is your Rm will have better speed and the Harley having a better spread of power up top.
John what track are you doing this on ?

My dough's on the RM for on track ability but the Harley wins the pitside drool cool award. They're both gems though John. I still kick myself for knocking back an identical Harley in going but unrestored condition about 10 years ago because it didn't have the original tank, it had a polished alloy Hi-Point ::). The price?...$1300. It serves me right for being a picky prick. ;D

$1300 is bloody cheap Firko..i even have a spare tank for mine which i was going to use as a race tank. The Harley is a real top end motor which makes it harder to ride.

Yeah it was one of those ones that got away John. It was on Marks Swapmeet when it was run by Jeff. My problem was that I listened to my "inner Mr Sensible", the little guy in my head who throws those "you don't need another bike" thoughts into my head. By the time I realised what a great deal it was the bloke had sold it to someone else. Thankfully ''Mr Sensible" doesn't appear much any more.

Harrisville is next weekend, it'd be a great track for a comparison.

Do you need to pre enter or just enter on the day?

its gonna be a busy day John, everytime you jump on the Harley you will have to take off your MX gear and put on your shitty old jeans, patch jacket, LA shorty and skull facemask !

Twofiddy (is on the tank ;)) -  which makes comparison to an RM370 a little unfair :P.

They are both bloody cool bikes  8) i love 370s and Johns is a very cool example. regardless of the race result i would have to say if given the option to have in my shed the harley wins hands down.

Great idea though John  :) perhaps you can rustle up a few more pre 78 250/open bikes from the lads up there and have an old skool  shoot out  ;D Dont forget to make sure you get plenty of pics to post and a proper shootout report  :)

AMF owned Harley Davidson and Harley Davidson owned Aermacchi so I guess you're pretty close. :-\
