Agree with slackwell 100% that 78 kx 250 is the sexiest bang for your buck.... of cause some of the works bikes of the 70's are better, but i rarely get a chance to see them in the flesh let alone own one.

My non-VMX choice;
And NO, it is not a HONDA, but the 350cc MV Augusta 6. Picture take at the 2003 Island Classic.
Not only does it look sexy, it sound like sex should, LOUD and raw. I deliberatly stood behind it when it was started up and would not have moved even if my ears started bleeding.

Seeing that non dirt bikes are being included I thought I'd post a couple of bikes from my other passion, cafe racers and street trackers. I'm building a long term Benelli street tracker (I work on it when I've got the shits with the VMX tackle) The inspiration for the bike is the below Trumpy tracker.

For engineering brilliance and for looking just plain gorgeous I can't go past Roland Sands KR V5 tracker which has a Kenny Roberts V5 Moto GP engine. It might not be very practical but when did that come into it?

Cotton Cougar 1963 (love the tank, very modern for the early 60's)
-
The Cotton is one of the lightest frames of the era. I donated a Cotton frame to Yamaico a couple of weeks ago so we might eventually see it up here as one of his projects. The one above is a sweet bike.

When I first saw this thread, this is the bike that I thought of as the sexiest bike ever built ... and I'm not a Kiwi ;D
Not so much the colour scheme but the engineering .. the design .... the lines ... and the sound ..... holy crap, what a machine 8)

Doc,
i was lucky enough to put in about 8 or so laps at CD8 on a mates pristine 82' model 125 and
WOW!
what a great bike 8)
very nice
-
yep Vandy, I love the '82's although they don't really like me cause I'm such a short arse :D Same with the RM125S..I love them too but the favour isn't returned on the track. I feel much more at home and can ride quicker on a TM/TS..especially if it has an RM125S engine fitted ;D
-
Nobby is that an RN or TM tarted up? Jerry
Jerry,I'm not an expert but I'd say it a RH?

Doc - have to agree - I had a 250 Z and thought it was gorgeous - but then think that about each bike I get ;D
-
Nobby is that an RN or TM tarted up? Jerry
It's a TM made to look like an RH..
-
Don't you mean RN Johnny. I thought RH was the 250 and RA for 125. What about how tidy the workshop is I love it. J
-
You're right Jerry RN is correct for the big bore, i just said RH after reading nobby's post.
-
It's a TM made to look like an RH..
Are you sure John? it looks like the real deal to me. RN370/400 with long stroke top end. Notice the spacer under the barrel and the narrow tube used in the rear subframe.
-
Swingarm pivot area doesn't look production either :-\..the longer I look the more I feel it's an RN.
-
Youv'e all got me researching now :-\ check this out 8). sorry to all the non yellow's, maybe we'll get moved to the Suzi thread.

Doc the cylinder head is totally different to an RN, it looks like TM and the bottom of the fork legs are different, they look like machined down TM forks and what's with the barrel spacer? The lower fork legs are also longer than RN fork legs. The flat seam around the edge of the tank is different to RH/RN also.
It looks to me like a very good copy of an RN possibly using RM370 wheels, triples etc and a hand made tank, not sure if it's an RN frame or a copy.
Have a look at the pics of Dave Tanners RN400 on vintageworksbikes.com for comparison.
-
Shame about the kick starter but if it's a TM he done a bloody good job
