It looks as if I've broken my vow not to get any more bikes from the USA twice in the last week. After buying $200 DT2MX earlier in the week it seems that I'm also the new owner of this Champion framed DT1. Seeing that I'm on a bit of a roll with this trick framed DT1/RT1 fetish I seem to have, this bike jumped out of the page at me. It didn't help that two or three mates emailed the listing to me either ::). I made a half hearted bid of $1000 yesterday arvo, convinced that somebody would certainly out bid me but lo and behold I awoke this morning to find the eBay "You've won" email in my in file. I've spoken to the seller, a really nice bloke who is a Vinduro and classic trials guy who'd picked the bike up from Nevada in a job lot.
The amazing thing is the frame#....0001. Even if the bike isn't a Champion and isn't 'numero uno' it's still a decent buy but if the numbers come up as legit, I've picked up a real collectors item that'll sit nicely next to my Hindall DT1 which also has #1 frame. Because of space constrictions in Casa del Firko's man cave one or two bikes will definitely have to hit the sales scene to make room for this baby...but I'll deal with that later on.

Very nice flat track rolling chasis, best i can tell it is very early Champion (frame number 0001) Yamaha DT1 engine turns over and have good compression, 19" Wiemann low shoudered front wheel and looks like Champion tank. Previous owner claims this chasis has sat for 15 years in the shed in Nevada. I am collecting trials motorcycles and don't know much about flat track racing and will answer your questions best i can. Possible trades for trials machines. Buyer is responsible for shipping and all shipping fees. What you see is what you get. Ask questions before you bid.

Eeerrrr, not likely Graeme ???. I've got more than enough on the boil without having to resurrect that shitbox. It's a classic example showing that some people should never be allowed anywhere near a spanner or a classic motorcycle. I shudder at how much that bike must have vibrated with those bodgy engine mountings. The Trackmaster frame and bodywork is the only thing anything like saving. It was never meant to have that engine.

Firko had a look at that when the guy was selling it for $1500, but the cut off rear loop kept doing my head in.

Dont read too much into the number #,  Ray and those guys punched anything and its not really a sequence numbering, the early ones have nothing.  and i have seen some with the same number.  numbering was also used for the motor model, which later became yam 1, yam 2 , yam 3 and so on
the only saving grace i considered after he knocked back my offer was the GYT barrel

So Freaky, the only saving grace for the bike is the GYT top end ???? I didn't even ask the guy anything about the engine because it doesn't mean diddley shit to me. Now Iknow it's a GYT I'm even more stoked. The important thing to me is is whether it's a Champion or not. My friends over there seem to think it's kosher but even if it's number 10001 it's still what I wanted. The number isn't important to me but if it is Shwermas #1 DT1 Champion I've scored a little bonus that'll sit nicely with my #1 Hindall DT1 and Jonesy's #1 B50 C&J and #1 A65 Trackmaster. We'll see what it is once it gets here.

btw, I've been told that the lack of rear loop is a good indicator that it's a very early frame.

Shit you're funny ;D. This one's for me, not some schnapps drinkin' nancy boy ;D. I'm pretty sure my brilliant motocross career has come to a grinding halt (about 15 years ago)but I think there's may still be an occasional dirt track skid left in this old body. This is just the vehicle to such an activity.

Brakes?? I don't need no stinkin' brakes! ;D (but I might fit a left footpeg to make it a bit more user friendly).

yeah i reckon.
and not necasarily, even a PDV with a cut means nothing.  wait till you get it here for a better look.
