Title: 98 Octane Fuel.
Post by: Curly3 on July 27, 2011, 06:32:18 pm
Opinions on which brand of 98 octane is the best?
Are the various octane boosters worth using?

Never had problems with BP98 and when thats not enough i have added Rock Oil or Silkolene octane booster and that made a difference.

I used to use BP until i found one day 15 litres(on their bowser reading, plus oil)fitted in my 13.5 litre tank.

BP Ultimate definitely keeps my bikes (both 2 & 4 stroke) running better than any other brand available at the bowser. It develops more power and the bikes are sharper off the mark and better mileage seems to be another plus as well.

I thought they put a "gag" on you in the court case? but to answer your question, I use Paul's tweezers....he carries them for when he has to go too the little boy's room. ;D

Its OK Hairdo, I still use Caltex - simply because there's a Caltex servo in town (and because its pretty high turnover and cheaper than most).
In reality, most of us would be better off with 96 in our stock-ish bikes.

had nothing but trouble with caltex and Shell. At a push BP and of all things liberty 100 max. everythign else seems to ping all the time.  these nes only half as much.

I have moved to mixing with Av gas and seems to be getting better density and heavyness.

Not that I'm mixing 2 stroke at the moment (unless you count the wipper snipper :D) but in my road race bikes and my SS crewman (anyone want to buy it??) I've always used caltex or BP.  Everytime I use shell in the crewman it runs like a hairy goat  ::)

I use caltex now and have used BP until i got ripped(more to do with the servo than the product) and all has been good,Shane at slipstream motorcycles told me to avoid shell as it has some shit in it that seems to gum carbs up???

cheers Dale.

The old Shell Optimax used to foul spark plugs in carb'd motors - something about being designed for EFI motors that cut the fuel on trailing throttle.
The new stuff is supposed to be better, but the repeated rebranding hardly fills me with confidence...
