What model Huskies can you race in pre65 and pre70, it may be a silly question but I know alot of models have carry over years...250 and 360's are available for both classes?...I loved the Huskies at CD8 and since I dont have a ride in either class I was thinking outside the square......those CZee's, Bezza's and Metesse jalopies seen to be common as an argument on here ;D...are they something you need to source from the Seppo's......and do/can they shift on the L/H side?....and the 6 million dollar question...is that what they cost.....I'm just trying to bring a smile to the old fellas....hang on, I'm one of them. ;D....but seriously, are they a viable thing?....Cheers Johnsquarna.
-
There dose seem to be a fair bit of 69, 360 husky stuff on Marks Swap meet, Have no idea how they go as a pre 70 racer thou.
-
something like this one?
very nice :)
-
Thats it, where do I pick it up from Mic?.....I like the candy apple red on the tank though.
-
This is easy.... so pre '65 eligible bikes are 4 speed 250 cc (or smaller)...bikes up to and including the 1967 bikes (no 360's)...pre '70 bikes are 4 speed up to 400cc including the 1971 model bikes.... All bikes are right side gear change only , that is not able to make change to left as with the 1972 onwards "new generation" bikes which could be either right or left gear change.... the pre' 70 Husqvarna would be considered one of the best bikes to race ...just look at the world wide results of the day..... two world championships ..... If you can handle teh right side gear change...your in.. :)
-
Cheers, thats good....I thought there would be carry over models....I've just started reading my Houus-quarna Success book I got at CD8 off the VMX Mag guys......those early jiggers are pretty rare going by the numbers they made...still I'll sew the seed and keep an eye out for something......might have to pry one out of Shoey.....test ride one for a season ;D...thanks again, Johnsquarna.
-
The pre 65 huskies are 250 only, and a bolt together frame (you can't use a sportsman frame which was a bolt together frame as per moms), with 140mm front and rear diameter brakes, the brakes diameters changed after 68, as Watto has said the 67 to 71's 360 and 400 are legal for pre 70, and the 68 to 71 250 are pre 70 legal. The 68s had the small hubs but were not bolt together frames.
Davo, Shoey doesn't have a pre 70 bike, although he has tried to twist my arm a few times, he has even written under the rear guard this belongs in my shed #61 ;D
-
So, where they your pre 70's at CD?.....Beautifull bikes. How many has Hans got stashed?
-
I like the look of those '71 400 Husky's and there always seems to be some for sale in the US. It's like they have iconic status over there because Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen rode Husky's then and the On Any Sunday Movie helped their popularity.
There were plenty of Husky's at the pointy end of big motocross meetings in the US and Europe back then also.
I'm with you Johnboi if i was building a pre '70 bike i'd go for a Husky instead of CZ, Bully or Pommy 4banger
-
Dont forget the Clockwork Orange Monties and the square barrel Miaco 360
-
I think the Husky wins the looks contest hands down, hey JohnnyO, Lee Bantham reckons he sold an early one to Hans for a couple of hundred when he had the shop.....and you got a few goodies aswell ;D....they where all worth shit back then....if only, hey Slakey, I think you need 400 cross to keep those KTM's honest....does anyone in Aussie race a pre65 or 70 Husky?....are there any pre65 Huskies in Aus?.
-
Yeah John i remember that Husky at Lee's shop, he had several nice old Husky's. Ballard bought a nice '74 mag 250 from him also. I bought 2 good 250 elsinores a '74 and a '75 for $600 each, ready to race!!
The Husky wins my vote for the best looking pre 70
-
I think the only one he's kept is Ian Cunninhams Thumper Nats winning bike.....he still got a shed full of stuff he goes through every now and then......he must have ended up with everything from those days in that area.... 8)
-
There was so much vintage stuff around Toowoomba back then.. i should've bought up big! I've got a mint original 1970 Z50 from him also.
Get yourself the original On Any Sunday movie, after you've watched it you'll be twice as keen to buy an old Husky! Got me excited when i watched it last week
-
Kevin Brown and Birko ride pre 65 250 Huskies in NSW, i ride my 69 360, i think Glen up in Qld has a pre 70 250 as well as a pre 65 250, Fernando has a 400 as well as Kevin Brown, there is probably a few others around as well. Hans has sold most of his bikes off however he has a pre 70 250 and a couple of others
-
Yea, I havent watched "On any Sunday" for awhile.....O'll Glen Wobblewobbler ;D up here has those bikes in hiding....its good to here there are a few around.....going by the book I'm reading the Yanks got up to 70% of the bikes made.
-
Apparently that Swedish stuff can scoot along pretty good…

Even our forum moderators get in on the act.....check em out with the hats on!! ;D....I thought the flood gates would open with all sorts of cool photos of Huskies to drool over and inspire me.
-
I know that those Husky 2 strokes are cool things but if you really want to hit the pre 65 scene with a bit of pizazz, this baby is what you need...a 1963 Husqvarna MC500..

Thats the chop Firko....gotta love that easy rider seat....marC fX will be on to that....is the engine the usual European bitzer Mark?.....what really erk's me on bikes is when people go to all the troble of building a really cool bike and then they hold the front number plate on with zip-ties!!!....we need a front plate zip-tie free zone.
-
There must be some more cool photos out there.....wheres the Steve McQueen ones?

The zip-ties are used to keep the weight under 136 kg. ;)
Those early 60's Huskies are way cool!

Bitzer? What do you mean by bitzer? That's a genuine Husqvarna MC 500 GP bike and that's the way they were. The engine's a Hedlund, the same as used by Monark and Lito (in fact all three bikes are basically the same except for name and paint) Here's a shot of Klub Kevlars Grand Pooh Bah Frank Stanborough at work on Jonesy's Hedlund destined for his 1959 Monark 500. I agree with you on the zip ties though.

Those early 4 strokes are nice but worth a small fortune i would think.
-
Zip ties may be a modern innovation..but the HVA factory guys had their front number plates held on with a rubber band made out of inner tube cut up...poked thru the number plate and a split pin holding it in place...... That red racer is nice Mark..but wouldn't pass muster here in OZ.... the rear hub is too new....

-
A real bench is a bench with no space.....reminds me of my 1/2 dozen benches....all covered in shit......they stay clean for about 2 days then its find that bloody part again.
-
have recently sold a 67 cr250 to a qld buyer has a collection of pre 70 bikes all montessa.the husky will be got going and will be ridden.i wil have a trackmaster husky here in a week or so
-
OK, the juries decided on a 71 CR400 cross, so what would I expect to pay for a shitter, an average condition bike or a good one?....I know its the how long is a piece of string kind of question but Ive never followed Husky prices. It will probably come out of the States as thats where the majority went. I can see theres plenty of consumables available from quite a few shops but what about pistons, rod kits etc and are they a fairly reliable sort of jigger?....If anyone has any leads or knows where there is one it will be greatly appreciated. I can wait for the right bike aswell, I'm not in a hurry as it would be a next year kind of job and in reality it would take 3 or 4 months to come anyway what are the downfalls of these models or what do I need to look out for?, cheers Johnsquarna. ;D
-
There was a '71 400 on craigslist last week for $7000. I don't think they're cheap over there.
-
Theres a CR250 roller on Marks at the moment....do the 400 motors fit in?...same guy has a 69 360 motor and alot of other Husky bits....does anybody know him?.
