Title: removing nickel plating
Post by: evo550 on July 17, 2011, 05:40:34 pm
Any ideas,
I have a project with one of those platnium pipes, which I dislike with a passion, and I want to take it back to bare metal finish. Is the plating removable? If so how or who? In Brissy.
Thanks.

Yes its removable. Just take it to any chrome plater and they can strip it. Basicallly its just the reverse process of electroplating. You can do small parts yourself at home with a 12v battery, some jumper leads and a container of sulphuric acid but it is not practical to do an exahust pipe or something that big unless you had a big container filled with acid that the pipe can fit in, plus you would need a bigger power supply. But for the odd small nuts and bolts yes its do-able at home.
