Robin,
I've had good results , on my XT 500, with a Dunlop D803 trials Universal on the front.

The Kenda sticky might be the go, Robin, a few of the lads down our way used soft compound Michy knobbies on the front  to good effect.

One and only question-does it hold the rim off the ground
If YES then it'll do-it's Dirt Track FFS

Dunno about on an old bike, but the 80/100 x 21 Motoz Tractionator X-Circuit is brilliant on my 05 YZ125 on the dirt track...

As far as Kenda goes, wouldn't the right tyre be the Carlsbad? Designed for blue groove hardpack I've read.
