I have a mate who picked up a very original Honda XL500 for a slab. This model is fitted with a 23" front wheel. The tyre on it is a road trail tyre that is hopeless in the dirt. Is anyone still making a full knobbie tyre in this size?
-
NO don't ask, just fit a 21" front wheel and be done with it.
-
YOu can get trials in 23" off a spedway bike.

The best place for those poxy "Claw action" tyres is in the bin.
I had one on my XR250 back in 78. Fastest way to a hospital bed. The bike will handle sooo much better with a 21.
I understand the wanting to keep it original bit, but you can take it too far :D

Keeping it original is not a big deal. What model/years 21" fit on it? Hopefully straight swap?

Old age and memory do me no favours here .... but I seem to remember that the wheel I used was from a CR250. probably a 78 or 79 model. Think it was a straight swop too.
There are others here that will have done it, and remembered what they did. Me .... I had good results on the old twinshock XR, but hankered after something faster. The CR250 in enduro mode was a disaster. The old KLX250 from 81 was a winner. Gutless but good.

hi
if you dont want the front 23wheel i could use it on my slider.

Cheng Shin was doing a 23" knobby but I think are nil stock in Aus now (that wasn't very helpful I suppose! :-\) but maybe sniff along that line for some dealer dead stock.
