Title: RT1 rear rim width?
Post by: Nathan S on February 16, 2008, 10:49:04 pm
I've got a RT1 pre-70 project that is finally seeing some progress.

My question is which alloy rim I should fit? Normally I'd fit a 2.15" wide rim, but I don't have any in that width... I've got a spare 1.85" rim, and a spare 2.50" rim, though...

Suggestions?

The steel rim that's on it is a 1.85, and I've got a 110/100 or 120/100 tyre for it, FWIW.

i'd go the 2.15 if you can,
my choice is,
1.85 for 125's
2.15 for 250's and smaller open class or anything pre78 and earlier
2.50 for the big bore Evo's

Remember it is pre 70 Nathan. Finds some proof (PHOTO) of a large rim in use at time and use one. Good luck, as even pre75 sidecars rears are  (well were) controlled in their maximum width  size...... check closely the M.O.Ms re pre70 it ...may.... be mentioned. cheers Tim

Tim, I thought that tyre width was limited, but nothing about rims?

Vandy, yeah, that's what I was thinking - but I was/am hoping that someone would explain to me that I was wrong (and why)...  :-\
Even the RT1MX ran a 4.00 tyre, which suggests that the 1.85 rim was standard. I know that the DT1/DT250s had a 1.85" rear rim, if that means anything.

WTSwap: 36 hole, 18x2.15, 36 hole alloy rim in good condition. Will swap for 18x1.85 or 18x2.50...
