Title: What are the differences in rings
Post by: tony27 on May 31, 2011, 06:17:33 pm
Are the rings for a ty250 different dt250s?
The first 3 numbers are different but I assume that they're both L shaped top rings, I can find quite a few sets of rings to fit a dt but it's not as easy to find them for my ty
434-11610-00 are for the ty
438-11610-00 are for dts
Hopefully someone can tell me that the are the same

Thats what I wanted to hear, I have a new .25 over DT piston kit to fit if I rebore the cylinder but at the moment a set of standard rings should do

From what I can remember that center number being the same means they are the same part the first numbers simply being the model allocation. It's been 30+ years though.

Sort of correct its the same basic part identity but not neccisarily the same actual part number as it for a differant model.

model code  - basic item code - design code - colour   ( 000-0000-00-00 )
ie in a basic format all it tells you is :
TY - a ring - standard size
DT -  a ring - standard size

thats about all that really tells you, not really if it will physicaly fit of not.  with the yamaha 9 series general parts the next 4 tell you what it is and made from - but the last 5 tell you the important stuff like size, shape etc
9 0000-00000  ( -2515 - means it 25mm x 15 mm for ex

IN your case regarding the ring itself The only differance will be the width of the ring and the end groove for the pin ( veritical or horizontal for exp )  so if it fits in and the pins cut out is arond the right way you can use it no problem  :D
